This time last year, he was all over the front of the Tour of Poland. Finished 5th on GC and won a stage. He then rode the Vuelta.
This year, his results have been terrible.

Jakobsen has been having a shocker this year, struggling to finish races let alone win them. Good move by Picnic to offload him IMHO

They've only really got one sprinter at the moment (Brennan), they're currently riding the fairly sprinty Tour of Poland without one. Not that Jakobsen would want to ride that particular race if he'd joined in time for it...
While I don't hold out a lot of hope for his career, sometimes a new context is what's needed to get back on track. Whatever's up with him he's nowhere near the level he could be. With PicnicNL being a bit weird management-wise (e.g. pulling Biesterbos from the Tour halfway through for his "development") it's not outrageous to speculate that there's just something off in a team that's in an apparent death-spiral and was only granted single year's licence (they need to find sponsorship for next year and beyond - I've not heard they have yet)
