Wrong, wrong, wrong!
By your method, you'd have to keep putting the scouring pad down as you put the clean things on the rack.
By using the approved method, you can hold onto the scourer whilst not needing to let go of the now clean things as you utilise the draining rack.
It's really that easy!
I once read that some poor souls have difficulty handling scouring pads. I believe there are clinics to help them.

Just got a request from Linkedin suggesting I add someone as a contact
which is OK

but her job is listed as "Talent Acquisition Partner"

you are a recruiter!! That is what you are - stop using damn stupid job titles for basic jobs!!!!

A draining board to the right of the sink! Highly annoying.

Unless you are a leftie, I suppose.

We have had the drainer on the right of the sink in our apartment for more than a decade. This is because our kitchen is tiny and under the roof of the building so it it were the other way around we'd have to bend double to wash up.

As it is my head touches the ceiling and anyone bigger than me* has to hold their head sideways.

*Which, let's be honest, is practically anyone...
