'scuse my muddled thinking, but if one looking after a dog, then taking it for a daily wander is part and parcel of pet ownership , not farm it out to others, for a 15 minute trot around the block not going to do much for the mutts mental state, they are pack animals, be it a silly 'handbag pooch' or a monstrous junk yard. Hound ,they need more exercise than being dragged around the block.
That's why we have many bad tempered dogs.
I am not a dog owner, as I'm not prepared to be tied down by pet ownership, and being a former 'Postie' I can testify to the mood swings of cooped up mutts,
I might add I used to take the family dog out with me on my rounds, Much against the work rules)

Oh, and while editing that paragraph, another annoyance made itself obvious - the keyboard does not have a delete key. It is annoying to have to move the cursor right and then use backspace to delete back to where I started from.

It is possible that the function key (if there is one) + backspace has the effect of a delete key. That is how my Mac keyboard works, and it is a possibility yours works similarly.

You are assuming that "just purchased" meant "just purchased from them". Which is a reasonable assumption I suppose, but one I wasn't making.

I imagine they'd be fairly happy to show you headphone adverts anyway, to see if they could trigger buyer's remorse and make you think you'd have got a better deal if you'd shopped with them instead of the competition. It's an industry that thrives on making you feel bad about yourself and your life choices.

I did try that but no luck, or with any other combinations of keys that I tried.

While experimenting, I discovered that ctrl-backspace deletes left a whole word, and that alt-backspace deletes back to the start of the line, both of which are handy.

Damn A.I. search... One result just now confidently asserted that there is a physical Delete key to the right of the Backspace key; there is not! Another result suggested (like you) that Fn-Backspace would do the job; no!

Blimey... Can I be 'annoyed beyond expectations' on behalf of a friend...?

I just got a text message from a friend who lives in Hebden Bridge, asking me to call her landline, so I did.

Apparently, she has not been able to make or receive voice calls on her mobile for a few days now. She can just about get enough signal to handle text messages but even they don't necessarily get through immediately.

O2 are the network (NOT) providing her service. I checked their website and found this helpful message:

Sorry, a phone mast close to you has been taken down.
We've had to remove a mast near you. We’ve upgraded other masts nearby to help boost the network, we’re sorry if you’re still having signal issues. We’ll update you by January 2026.

WTF!!!

I assume that O2 (surely/Shirley) won't take over 2 months to do the work or give a progress report, but how is that for customer service?! Lots of people are online complaining about this, and how they can't get past an array of A.I. chat bots to actually speak to a human operator to find out what is going on.

My friend does at least still have a landline but many people don't now. She was asking me about WiFi Calling but her phone (my old one!) doesn't support it. Despite a dislike for Zuckerberg and his companies, I think she will end up on WhatsApp for the duration.

This has reminded me why I decided against switching over to mobile broadband rather than signing up for fibre. I wanted a backup in case the phone signal went down.
