AI Overview
In 12-hour format, you should not use a leading zero for single-digit PM numbers. A leading zero (e.g., 07:00 PM) is associated with the 24-hour clock (e.g., 07:00 or 19:00), and its use with "PM" can cause confusion.
Correct formatting in the 12-hour clock
Use single digits for hours 1 through 9: The standard and most common practice is to write hours from 1 through 9 as a single digit.
Correct: 7:00 PM
Incorrect: 07:00 PM
Do not use leading zeros for PM numbers: Including a leading zero can be confusing because it is standard for the 24-hour clock and can be mistaken for the wrong time of day.
Correct: 1:30 PM, 9:15 PM
Incorrect: 01:30 PM, 09:15 PM
Consistent formatting is key
Across different formats, consistency is the most important rule.
For 12-hour times: Stick to single digits for hours 1–9.
For 24-hour times: Use leading zeros for hours 00 through 09 to maintain a consistent two-digit hour format. For example, 9:45 AM becomes 09:45, and 7:00 PM becomes 19:00.

AI overviews annoy everyone beyond expectation

Whenever is see someone/software/car clock display/etc show a hybrid 12-hour/24-hour time display.

For example, the clock will show 08:00pm where it really should be 8:00pm or 20:00. 08:00 is correct, but 08:00am is not (there should be no leading 0).

D*mn you sirrah: now I can see it I won't be able to unsee it.

Fortunately, we use the 24h clock as standard here so it's less of an issue...

Why? On average, they are extremely reliable...

AI:
"No, the average person likely cannot do a pull-up, as the exercise requires a high power-to-weight ratio and significant upper body strength. While averages vary by gender, with men having higher averages than women, many fit individuals, particularly women, cannot perform a single unassisted pull-up.

  • Difficulty:
Pull-ups are a difficult exercise because they require you to lift your entire body weight, unlike other bodyweight exercises like push-ups.
  • Gender differences:
Due to biological differences, men have a higher average power-to-weight ratio and can often perform more pull-ups than women.
  • Average performance:
    • The average man can do approximately 8 pull-ups.
    • The average woman can do 1 to 3 pull-ups.

I have never been able to do a pull up
my arms - especially the wrists and forearms - have never been at all strong so just will not take the weight

many years ago I did a "thing" which put us through a battery of fitness tests of various times
most people were at about the same place on all tests

I was weird - I was top in some tests - bottom in others

nothing in between

This one isn't trivial at all, given that AI overview (and other generative AI) is massively flawed as a concept, given that correctness is in no way part of how the algorithm works, that it destroys the planet with energy/water use, that it's likely to lead to an economic crash to rival 2008, that it's probably going to steal your job at some point so Musk/Bezos/Gates can have a couple of extra yachts and a Hawaiian island or two and that it's becoming unavoidable as it gets integrated into every bloody single bit of software you use. This is so non-trivial we should probably be in the streets with pitchforks about it, rather than having a polite whinge on a message board.

I used to be able to do 30 and single arm ones. Do I get a medal 🤣

Disabled or you’ve just never done any work to make them stronger?

Disabled or you’ve just never done any work to make them stronger?

probably the latter - any sports I have done have been ones where is can be got round

you would think sailing needs strong hands and arms - but I always got round it
My upper arms and especially shoulders are quite strong
as are my legs etc
which has confused some medical people from time to time
it also means people have sometime though I am gay - because the weak and small wrists mean some of my gestures can me thought of as more like a woman than a man

but basically it is just how I grew
possible due to nutrition problems when I was a small baby due to Coeliac Disease

but I can pedal a bike and hold onto the handlebars
and walk forever if I don;t see a cafe
so that's all right
