Trivial things that make you annoyed beyond expectations?

The simple answer to the crumpet issue would be to heat a more sensible 3 per sitting. I would probably eat 4 though, which would bring us back to the original annoyance!

There's a fundamental mismatch between the uneven number of crumpets and the generally even number of slots in a toaster though. Eating three with a two-slot toaster implies either letting a crumpet go cold while you wait for a second batch, eating the first batch while making the second (detrimental to the full enjoyment of the crumpets), or eating the first batch and then going back to make the second (disrupting a mealtime with meal prep between batches). None of these is optimal.

A far better solution is to buy two packets of crumpets, thereby having 9 servings of two crumpets available.

As for the food secrecy, your wife can count and doesn't believe that crumpets evaporate on exposure to air. Hopefully she treasures your charming naivety and smiles to herself when seeing the space where a crumpet ought to have been, instead of becoming enraged that some greedy b'stård ate all the crumpets.

I myself live alone and answer to no man, woman, child or beast for how many crumpets I eat in one sitting. Should I wish to, I could eat all nine* at once.

You're forgetting the fact that you can in fact fit two crumpets in one slot, hence enabling you to eat 3 (or even 4) in a single sitting. Proven many times by myself. Depending on toaster or crumpet size the layout may have to be like this: %
The drawback with this is extracting the lower crumpet can be fiddly or injurious to one's fingers, but mitigations are available such as impaling it on the end of a fork.

The ones that really annoy me are the ones that JUST allow time for a few cars to get through
but on a bike you have no chance

I did get into a problem with one set round here once
I was first through and a few cars passed me (there was room at that point)

but when the lights changed I was only 3/4 of the way through
in spite of being on an ebike and going as fast as I could

A car just started coming towards me - which would have been badish but OK if that was it
but the lorry behind him started coming behind him - and deliberately going along right up to the kerb on my left (his right)

I ended up just having to stop in the middle of the road and wait for them to get out of the way as there was no walkway or anything on either side

eventually the lorries and cars behind those 2 moved over and I got past on my right and got between a couple of cars that were being reasonable

all from wrongly timed lights!

When that has happened to me, I've been known to stop and advise the oncoming driver that green doesn't mean "Go", it means "Go, if the way ahead is clear" :-)

But being practical, the trick is to ensure that you don't go through the single-lane bit on the tail of a line of vehicles, but to wait for the next green and go through at the head of the queue, ideally without letting cars overtake you. Then an oncoming driver with a green won't have any option but to wait.

I always used to think 2 crumpets was a normal amount

then I relised that they come in packs of 6 or 9
and in stacks of 3

so it seems normal to have a stack as a single portion - i.e. 3


I suspect this is something that has not been missed by the marketing department of certain crumpet makers

(not a problem now - I'm not allowed them anyway as they contain wheat!!)

I tune in for NEWS, as in the title of your program, not for an extended advert for Celebrity Traitors. Anyone interested in that shyte would already have watched the actual program between 21:00 and 22:10, and would surely be watching The Celebrity Traitors: Uncloaked on BBC2 between 22:10 and 22:55, unless, as usual, it overruns. FFS! Get a grip! BBC is supposed to be advert-free, but at least 5% of its daily output seems to be trailers /adverts for other BBC programs.

hence the small pack has 6
the same width GF ones come in stacks of 2 - 4 in a pack

and the normal ones are £1.15 a pack
the GF are £2.35 a pack


which is annoying - and there is no "own brand" cheaper option for gluten free
