You get an extra star for this post - as it should be your expectation that this would happen!

p.s. some more festive good news for you https://www.itv.com/news/meridian/2025-12-15/christmas-getaway-expected-to-be-the-busiest-on-record xx

I certainly expect it, every year ~ I just don't understand it.

Unfortunately, this year I will be adding to those numbers

Driving from home (South Wales) to my daughter's house in Scotland on Christmas Eve. It is crowded and slow from Birmingham to Preston at the best of times, I'm not looking forward to that drive at all this time.

A colleague of mine works in a different department, to do with data. When I receive a query about data, I reply to the sender and say something like "I have copied in X as this is a data question and they are best placed to answer it". Then the colleague just replies only to me, saying "I don't know". No attempt to find out, no attempt to escalate it to their manager, and no attempt to copy in the sender of the question to say "I don't know but I'll find out and get back to you". It's so annoying

Peterborough hospital cafe, i pop in there regularly at the moment. They used to do a fairly nice cornish pasty but don't anymore, no idea why ?
So why do they put out the cornish pasty advertising board outside the cafe... every ..single.. day ?

A slightly different form of that one used to annoy me..
Someone would approach me and ask (for instance)...'can you ask Dale blah blah'
In some circumstances, that's ok. But some people just use you as a conduit out of habit.
When I used to say...'you can ask him yourself, just send an email ?'
Ahhh well...blah blah would be the often used answer. In other words, they're just being lazy.

So I developed a tactics.. yeah, I'll ask him, then IF the subject got raised again id just say...havnt seen him, forgot to ask, etc etc etc, stonewall it.

I also have a boss who does that. Takes 5 mins to type me an email (or chat message) to ask if I can contact so and so and ask these questions. When it would have been quicker for her to just send it. And now I'm the middle man and have to field their responses back to her. And all because she doesn't know how to look up the relevant email address on our Hub, which is specifically designed so that everyone can look up anything themselves. And they are on £56k/year

You can imagine them saying in a meeting
"well I did all I could and sent it to Electric_Andy - I think he might have sent it to someone else - but what else could I do"

That sort of person always annoyed me when I worked in a big company - I felt that half the company was kept going by a few people like me who actually wanted to follow up on things and tlak to people who migth be able to help and get the damn thing fixed

I was actually told to drop a few things by my manager's manager because I had been asked to help with something that turned out to be the responsibility of another area - but the people with the actual front line problem kept asking me to check up on it because the area that could fix it were doing naff all unless chased them
