I had a laugh today when a friend told me what she had done. I am sure that the other person involved was "annoyed beyond expectations", until my friend rectified the situation...

My pal bought a coffee to drink on her way to work. She'd had a few minutes to wait for her train and had got chatting to the guy who served her. The train was pulling in, so she picked up her phone from the cafe counter, and went and got on board.

Just before she reached her destination she flipped open the cover to her phone to make a call, and discovered to her horror...

... a photo of the coffee guy's partner staring back at her from the lockscreen of the phone, which she had accidentally 'stolen'!!! Apparently, her identical-looking phone was in her other pocket!

My friend had to phone her supervisor to tell her what had happened, then catch another train back to return coffee guy's phone, and then catch a 3rd train back to work.

Coffee guy had been keeping his fingers crossed that his phone would reappear at some point and was very happy when it did!

Your pal might end up getting to know the coffee guy?!;🤣🥰🤣

The woman on the lock screen might have something to say about that!

The BBC, guardians of the English language 🤣🤣, who no longer seem capable of proofreading their articles before publication

“He threatened to share imitate photographs of the victim”

BBC articles are getting worse. I follow rugby and there's an article on reducing the tackle height.

"National unions will have the choice of setting either the base of the sternum or the waste as the upper limit for tackles.

As it happens this has now been corrected to waist but it's just an example of what is poorly written, non proofread articles. They also regularly get player positions wrong as well. Example Jamie George (who is Saracens and England hooker) being listed as a centre.

The route from our village to the station includes a non-surfaced path across a meadow, which is as lovely as it sounds, except that a woman in an SUV has decided she's entitled to park on said meadow, and then compounded this by choosing the one place on the entire meadow that blocks the path, so everyone has to walk around her car.

Sounds like the SUV is prime for a bit of muck spreading…

I am somewhat peeved that the postman didn't read my delivery instructions. "If no answer, leave package in back yard." I was upstairs when he banged on the door. By the time I opened the door he was back in his van and about to drive off**. I just managed to stop him.

** PS Er, obviously, with the parcel!

A bit of grit under the tyre valve cap (or two) can be quite effective so I'm told.. 🤷‍♂️

My interior car courtesy lights.
By the time I get in & shut the door they've gone off.
In my last car they stayed on for about 30 seconds, not 3!
Most aggravating. I have to leave the car door open to find the keyhole on my steering lock!

Posties aren't supposed to leave parcels in insecure places, at least that was policy when I worked until a few years ago.

If Joe Bloggs can retrieve parcel from place it's left, rather than only address residents, it's not secure.

Most parcels need a photo these days, if parcel went missing before you got it, the postie would get into trouble and official warnings could happen.

We used to be explicitly told to ignore notes, anyone can write them and stick them on door etc.

Maybe things have changed since I left, as Amazon drivers leave stuff on doorsteps in plain sight, even without knocking on the door these days.

This note was added to the parcel by Spa Cycles. TBH it would not have bothered me if I hadn't been offered an alternative.

I had a courier leave a parcel containing a fairly expensive webcam on my step once. A step straight onto the pavement, no front garden hetween them. Fortunately, the parcel was still there when I got home.

Somewhat less than trivial for me - the package I was awaiting didn't get left outside my apartment door as requested, but taken to a parcel pick-up spot in a "nearby" supermarket. Firstly, it's not the nearest to me by a long shot, secondly it's going to be a box of awkward dimensions - maybe 18"*18"*24" of non-negligible weight, and thirdly I need it today and it's F@ckïng baking out. I don't have a car or a cargo bike, so I'll have to try and strap it onto the back of my bike somehow.

I do have some sympathy with the delivery drivers/posties though, they've usually got far more deliveries than they can manage comfortably and get a bollocking if they don't complete their round
