Do you mean 559mm? 26 inch can also refer to 571mm, 584mm, 590mm and 597mm tyres.

That's the problem: 26" is the nominal outer diameter, whereas 559mm is the inner bead. If you try and use the ISO dimensions like the Imperial dimensions it will get very confusing very fast.

I am somewhat peeved that the postman didn't read my delivery instructions. "If no answer, leave package in back yard." I was upstairs when he banged on the door. By the time I opened the door he was back in his van and about to drive off**. I just managed to stop him.

When we got a new postie (the previous one knew where to leave parcels) I found that a stern talking to followed by a gift of homemade chocolates did the trick

Posties aren't supposed to leave parcels in insecure places, at least that was policy when I worked until a few years ago.

The Royal Mail app lets you choose a place from a drop down list.

Most parcels need a photo these days, if parcel went missing before you got it, the postie would get into trouble and official warnings could happen.

Posties do not take pictures, in my area anyway - only Amazon & Co do.

We used to be explicitly told to ignore notes, anyone can write them and stick them on door etc.

That's a bit silly, no? Imo, of course.
How are "anyone" supposed to know that one has ordered a parcel due to arrive on a certain day?

You've had to give those sizes in millimeters which proves my point.

If you had said 26 inches then we wouldn't have known which one of five different sizes that you meant. 559 is the most common but the others are still in use, particularly 590mm. And just to confuse things a lot of bikes use 584mm tyres that are described as both 26 and 27.5 inch tyres.

You would also have had to say 28 and 29 inches instead of 622mm. Both dimensions in inches are used for a rim with a 622mm bead diameter.

When I rebuilt my Raleigh 'City' 3 speed I changed the rims from 26x 1 3/8ths to 700c* for better/easier tyre choice, being slightly bigger wheel rims it also meant I could throw away those twisted bits of steel that Raleigh laughingly called brakes and fit some newer Weinmann calipers I had in the shed, The combination of changes from chrome rims to Aluminium, shorter reach calipers and Clarkes brake pads meant it actually brakes well now.
