Those are for smaller diameter (26") and wider MTB wheels

Your LBS are muppets!!

(Assuming you told them the correct size of wheel/tyre they were for?? :o)

Gary.

This little tale - together with the thread on replacing good quality V-brakes rather than just the pads, and my own recent 'mixed' experience of a fairly high profile specialist dealer fitting completely different shifters and brake levers to those I specified - makes me seriously concerned about competence and quality of service in bike shops today.

How can I say this without sounding rude?

If you know you have 700C x 23 hoops, ASK for 700 x 23 -28 inners. When the LBS put them on the counter, check them.

Sorry.
