Turning Stem

Recently bought a Secteur Sport ( first road bike since 1970!) to complement my Trek FX 7.3

Getting used to it slowly but would like the handlebars lifting an inch or two.

Is it permissable to rotate the stem 180 degees to lift the handle bars? There are no shims above the bars so cannot lift it any higher. Don't really want to buy a new stem!

Yes you can - most are reversible. Then when used to it, reverse back, get used to that, then slam it low and get rid of some of the spacers !!!!!
