You should check it out before you judge. Recent threads include "where can I go to escape the masturbation police" and "Am I being unreasonable to throw my husband out the day after he invited an 18 year-old home and shagged her in my bed while I was on night shift?"

All human life on Mumsnet, mate.

 I take it all back twenty: It's developing nicely.

I bet you could divert it if you asked for advice on babies names on the same thread ;)

Shall I post the following:

My DH is very religious and has recently joined a crusade organised by his Pastor to eliminate the curse of dogging by visiting dogging sites. They are trying to win the trust of doggers by joining in so that they can open up the eyes of the doggers to the Way of the Lord. Should I volunteer to join them?

Linf, mate, your 4x4 isn't a working vehicle. It's a leisure vehicle. To help you maintain the leisure interest that you choose to pursue.

Don't pretend that you have no choice.

Sorry bud, mine is a working vehicle used to transport my livestock to shows which are classed as 'plant machinery'. All tax deductable due to the nature of the horsey business

Do you have a link to that Patrick:biggrin:

Haven't got time - as "HardworkingAnna" I'm explaining how my DH forced me to work as a prostitute to pay the mortgage while he stayed at home watching Sky TV. The whole forum is awaiting my report on the weekend booking by Pentrycelyn Rugby Club.

So you're complaining about tax on a vehicle which has aspects that are tax deductable because you can slot it into 'working vehicle' in order to continue with your leisure pursuits?

you don't know you're born. You can stop complaining now.

He's his own worst enemy, is Dinsdale Bungslots.

There has to be some advantage to running a vehicle around which does 15mpg when working

Perhaps I'll get a Hummer next

Desperately insecure and defensive to braggingly arrogant in one day?

you really must do something about these mood swings.

Maybe if you ditched the 4x4 and stopped prancing around with horses you'd feel a lot better about yourself.

The horses are for keeps MrP

I said what you wanted to hear, you don't care if there is any substance in it as it is what you believe to be true

bah humbug 4 x 4 drivers

stopped to let a spooked horse by on a single track road
the flag of the trailer 'scares' horses on occasions I've discovered, tried to let the foolish young grrrrl on the horse by (she could have gone on the field next to her) when inpatient ruddy faced farmer waited all of ten seconds before driving inbetween - well squeezing past and spooking the horse even more...

and me as a 'newcomer' who does not know anything about the country

mumsnet though ... off there now

I think you've lost the thread somewhat.

Let's go back to the post where I pointed out that your 4x4 is not a necessary working vehicle, but one that you need to support your chosen leisure pursuits.

Or is it ok for me to say that I need to travel 30,000 miles by plane each year because otherwise I wouldn't be able to get to my holiday villa, and so it's unfair that they're increasing airport taxes?

OK, lets get back to that (we can ignore the hummer as I was obviously not being serious. I am far to hard on my vehicles to use such a bling toy like a Hummer for towing a trailer). The 4x4 is an essential working vehicle in my business in the same way a plumber would use a transit to move his tools around. It enables me to move my animals to events and exhibitions where they are used as advertising tools to promote my products. I could manage without it for this purpose, but then I wouldn't have the use of the animals, and this would affect my ability to market the products dramatically (Like trying to flog a product without any working samples). Apart from this, I use the vehicle to transport the animals to the vets for various aspects of their care, and it offers substantial savings on the alternatives (vets charging £75 to visit the farm before they even examine the animals). To have a vehicle like this is a prudent business decision given the alternatives.

I don't really see what a holiday villa in the Algarve or wherever has to do with keeping horses in the way I do

The problem is you don't really understand how this sector of agriculture works, or how my product fits into it so you really are clutching at straws with your suppositions. Now bear in mind that the Equestrian sector is worth at conservative estimates £2.5 billion each year in the UK alone.
It could be argued that the economy gains far more from Equestrianism than from another pastime like cycling which even at best turns over 4.5 million cycle sales each year (most being through Argos & JJB for £99.95, with the quality end of cycles through specialist dealers making up a very small percentage of total sales), so why the big push on sustrans over bridleways ?

Oh, the BikeBiz article blows spindrifts love of Churchill insurance stats right out of the water (especially regarding the dangerous 4x4 drivers which he loves to drag up to prove how dangerous we are  )
