Sold the Jazz today via We buy any car.com , I initially compared prices with Motorway and we buy any car , motorway came up with a higher figure so listed it with them , at end of the auction agreed a price which considering the cost of the required paint repairs I thought was a fair price, agreed a collection date with the trade buyer who turned up after a couple of cancellations. A very hairy raising test drive by there representative was less than impressive he then started to haggle on the price after three rises in offers I told him it would stay in the garage rather than accept there offer so he had to get a taxi to local train station and a return ticket.
So I tried it on marketplace and had a few bites but really low ball offers so I contacted we buy any car and went to see them today, no road test required a representative walked around the car noting any damage and then made an offer which was duly accepted.
Fifteen minutes later and it's sold.
We had exactly the same experience with Motorway with our Golf earlier this year, however the agreed price was far more than I thought we would actually get for it, so I took the lower offer to do the deal as I had a new car arriving, bit it does seem to be their modus operandi, get a high agreed price and the dealer then haggles it down on the driveway, he just said he thought the agreed price was too high, I declared and photographed everything so it wasn’t about a specific issue or fault.
I did raise this with Motorway and they said it was because the dealer noticed that front discs and pads needed replacing, I did tell them they were replaced about 3 months earlier and they were never mentioned when the dealer came to collect the car, but not surprisingly they didn’t respond. Although in the end I actually got a pretty fair price for it, I don’t like dishonesty and silly games, I wont be dealing with them again.
