I seem to only update my failures. A couple of months ago I was caring for my partner post-op (i.e. running up and down the stairs to get drinks and snacks, and doing the housework), and I lost 4 lbs. This spurred me on to a low fat diet and I lost another 4lbs. I have slowly been putting weight on again, and post-Rome holiday am now back to where I started at 12st 8lbs. Today is day 2 of my willpower resurgence. Hopefully I will post next week to say I've lost weight

Surprisingly lost ~1Kg while on hol last week, despite thinking I was eating more treats, must have been the ~9hrs walking I did instead of the usual 5-7hrs cycling, a vast majority of which is outdoors at this time of year and so far has been exclusively on the ebike.

But that 92.2Kg from Sunday is creeping up again, 92.6Kg today, but I've only done 40mins cycling so far this week...Post holiday stress, getting our old recliner sofa downstairs to be collected in advance of new sofa arriving has completely wiped me out.

Managed to lose 2kg on the bikepacking diet last week. Took until Christmas to get the weight back on last year.

228.6lbs this morning.

Only 0.2 of a pound less than yesterday, and innthe grand scheme prob all half a cup of tea, but still in the right direction so ill take that as a win.

Down to a mean of about 73.1kg this morning, following some unexpected loss over the past few months, a little correction then some more coming off thanks to the two day fast earlier in the week and efforts to use this as an appropriate place to get back on low carb.

While I don't welcome back the more restrictive and expensive traits of this eating regime, it's nice to become re-acquainted with the nicer elements of this diet - more consistent energy throughout the day, no longer being held hostage by my hunger, that warm feeling in areas of excess fat that possibly signals that they're being depleted...

I also seem to have slept better last night and generally feel better in myself - not sure if this is because of blood sugar fluctuations associated with carbs or additional issues (allergies) arising from the particular type of carbs I'm eating (I really shouldn't eat grains / bread but it always creeps back in as it's so ubiquitous).

Compared to last year I'm late to the party with the diet, however thanks to failing to regain all I lost plus the surprise weight loss recently, I'm down about 0.8kg relative to a year ago. It was dropping pretty rapidly then so that should give me an incentive to stay ahead of that trend.

From representative pictures I reckon I'm hovering around 20% body fat and would like to get down to around 10%; so the target weight loss is c. 7kg for an ideal of c. 66kg. At the expected loss rate of 0.5kg/wk that would be 14 weeks which is probably a tall order but I've felt my resolve hardening over the past week and if I can get below last year's low of c. 71.4kg that will feel like a little win

I was going through this thought process the other evening and got some similar numbers.

I think that I am around 20% body fat too and am also aiming for 10%, but I would also like to put on a few kg of muscle. That means a scrawny target of around 72-73 kg and a more muscular one of (say) 75-76 kg.

I think that I will find the loss easier than the gain!

Absolutely! I've been trying to gain muscle for many years with minimal if somewhat tangible results; and of course it only gets harder as we age.

On top of that conventional wisdom suggests that you need to be eating a caloric excess to build muscle, so from a diet perspective it seems you have a choice between fat loss and muscle growth.

Tbh I just try and do all the exercise I can and control the diet when the universe allows me to...

Good luck; keep us posted!

My struggle has been not losing too much muscle mass, which is a danger with rapid lead loss. 6 days a week of, light wights, high reps, protein shakes and lots of chicken and ride seem to be doing me ok.

I've dropped 52lbs since early March, quite an aggressive loss fuelled by a sighificant daily calorie deficit. While I've gone down two waist sizes my chest and guns have maintained. Not bad for 58.

I think that my diet is almost certainly significantly lacking in protein. I am going to calculate how much I am currently getting, how much more I need, and where to get it from. I have been pescatarian for over 40 years so it is not going to be from meat, but some of it could come from despatching more innocent fish!
