Left work at 2am and as soon as I walked the bike out into the carpark, it felt as if I'd walked into a freezer.
Minus 5 degrees, but it felt colder.
Legs were sluggish and knees were aching inside with the cold, which slowed me down a bit and had the effect of chilling out further. Fingers and toes went numb and I longed for the heated grips I had fitted to my last motorbike.
I don't think it's going to be as cold tonight, but I'm putting thicker kit on just in case.
On the bright side, only a single car passed me, until I reached the cycle path alongside a dual carriageway heading in to Durham; and along with the clear skies and close to full moon, it was a lovely peaceful, if somewhat slippery ride back.
