My VN Yukon with mudguards will take a max 25c tyre. Last winter I ran Schwalbe Durano with, I think, only one p*******. In late November I fitted Continental GP4 Seasons; so far 700k in the wet and 3 visitations. I am unlucky or are conditions generally worse this winter?

Don't know about fulham but lots of potholes are around here, even if you miss em the roads are full of gravel due to them!

I am still running with the Durano pluses I fitted to my road bike back in October 2012. They have been excellent with only the one visit from a certain fairy and hawthorns go through most tyres. They are heavier and slower rolling, but they grip exceptionally well and I am happy to use them in all weather conditions including ice - but I have plenty of experience of cycling on ice. The only time I didn't use them last year (2013) was when there was 6 inches of snow of the ground at which point I went over to studded tyres on my mtb... I've done around 4,000 miles on the Durano Pluses so far.

Second vote for Durano Plus. Have just changed mine after doing around 7000 miles on the last set. Only one puncture which was my own stupid fault as I carried on cycling on a road that was in the process of having a hawthorn hedge cut too.

Unlucky.

I've been commuting on 23mm 4 Seasons for a number of years with very few punctures. Not many tyres can get near them for low weight, puncture protection and wet weather grip. Great tyres for poor conditions.

Thanks for the comments, everybody. I have gone with the flow (and previous favourite) and have reverted to Durano - not easy fit on Aktium rims.

I have not ditched the 4S - I have fitted boots to cover the gashes incurred recently and they probably will be re-installed when I next have a quirky run of p******* events.
