Went past quite a few pubs yesterday afternoon / evening on a bike ride. Some were clearly still closed, some I think were open but hard to tell, some had literally one or two outside having a drink. Only one pub looked busy with a good crowd outside.

I think a lot of old customers have got used to not drinking,or got used to cheap supermarket beer prices.
Quite possibly. They do need to equalise the tax between supermarket and pub beer. Drinking at home is worse than pubbing in so many ways.

But no, you're right, not everyone thinks, or cares about this sort of stuff.
Correct. "Business" and "ethics" in one line in your previous post, there's an oxymoron if ever I saw one.
Plus, ALL employers are shite, in my lengthy and varied experience, and that's only going to get worse as unemployment rises.
"If you don't like it here, f*** off out that door, there are millions waiting to do your job". That is what our entire course of new recruits were welcomed with on day one when I started a new job in 1982. The same attitude prevails today, probably more so.

Well each to their own of course, management styles, and motivations differ.

Successful business and ethics are very possible, I've been doing both for decades.
Seen an upswing since Lockdown even.

I employ people, and curiously they've stuck around, and will go the extra mile when needed.

I try to appreciate that, in return.

And will support other businesses that I see doing the same.
I try to swerve the ones that dont, where possible that's all.

Veering a bit off topic here, maybe some folk need a drink. I could reply to your point brandane with some employment experiences of my own, including hotels and retail, but here aint the place. The politics bit will embrace you though.

Back on topic, was shocked to see the scenes in soho. Folk in their local pretty unlikely to face anything like that I think.

Still haven't been to the pub myself yet.

I overheard a landlord talking to a couple outside his pub (Wimbledon Common, ‘Young’s’ branded), he was saying that he hasn't been able to open due to lack of stock, the brewery, distributors etc have to get all their staff back from Furlough, like the delivery drivers which will take a week or two.
None of the chain are opening until the 20th, so was a challenge to find a place open for birthday drinks/dinner on the 18th around there (Greene King are open fortunately)

And the breweries haven't been able to predict when opening up would take place, so supplies will be limited.

My sons bar sells a fair proportion of locally brewed stuff, those breweries, and distillers have been ticking over on off sales in the last few months.

You can't turn supply off and on again at the drop of a hat.

That's why it's been our moral duty  to keep consuming local breweries output, throughout lockdown.

Tough work, but someone's got to do it

Nice day at the pub, no hassle, no issues, nice to see some old faces again. I think the media are probably a bit gutted there wasn't more issues for them to report on.

I socialise in Leeds on a weekend, it's getting harder as Leeds gets ever busier. That's what people missed and wanted to do last Saturday, socialise, simply interact with others. Enough people will always pay a premium for that over sat at home nursing a can of Aldi's finest lager. The problem that these punters found, is that many pubs were set up to cater for and ally the fears of, those who were not going to go to them anyway. "Lax" pubs locally quickly became the busiest, leading to one going beserk and the police shutting it down. Like retail shops, things are going to have to change very quickly or they might as well shut again.

Great day out Saturday. Only visited # pubs. My normal start pub appeared to be in a panic. Odd as it would be easy to keep 1 metre apart. Either way when I rung they said I would have to sit outside with the dog. This is a very very dog friendly pub. She said we had to stay outside because of the cleaning problems? It's not the dogs you have to clean. Gave it a miss.
Either way first pub called in was very busy a little less than usual although I am not certain of that. The bar stools were a full 2 metre apart. But most people other than if you were sitting at the bar didn't seem to botheri with 1 metre rule. I had to rush off as I forgot to go to the cheese shop. When I got back it seemed like the management had got it under control. Apart from gang of youngsters who were hampering it jager bombs etc. Next a rather small pub with a few seats outside. Not doing to well. Final pub no problem with the 1 metre rule about the same amount of customers as normal. Plenty of room outside and in there restaurant. Booked for Thursday night there and a chicken and chorizo pie. Already booked bus for next Saturday and will do the same this Thursday. Last pub does want to know how long you are staying for and told me table number and where about it was. I will therefore book my taxi home well in advance. Dog happy as got extra treats at the coffee shop again outside seating under cover. Cafe Nero closed although I have never used it.
So pubs generally not struggling to much.
Opps forgot one pub closed as landlady is in a at risk group and is waiting another month to open.
Also noticed a few southern accents, obviously come from the London with there city plague. Two in wheelchairs.
Forgot fishmonger had tons of free off cuts for the dog I bought a tiramisumo pudding (i think that's the wrong spelling)
I also noticed all the pubs and the coffee shop had extra staff on.

No pubs that normally serve cask were short of cask beers. Had a very good pint of doombar. Had one other cask on which was normal. Other pub good range of cask on. One place I went in only had....peroni on. First time been in there and the last.

I'd go for the Peroni (if hot) over Doombar.
Doombar is the new stella I think - you do realise that it's not brewed on a rock in Cornwall I hope?
Spoons used to sell it for a premium, then gave up - customers (or at least the real ale customers) too discerning.

Did you go to every pub in SW London and speak to every landlord to come to this conclusion?
I’ll agree that Peroni is horrid, but so is cask bitter
