Last night I watched Glass Roof: 30 Years of Lancaster's Music Co-op.
Lancaster may not have much of a musical legacy on a national scale but it has a vibrant local scene, most of which wouldn't have happened without the Music Co-op. This ramshackle building provides rehearsal rooms and a recording studio for any budding band. The soundproofing is practically non-existent, the equipment for hire is questionable, the glass roof leaks and the flaking pant and plaster hides a multitude of sins on the well worn carpets... but it's the sort of place that a bunch of school kids can pool their pocket money, hire a room, a drum kit, a couple of guitars, basses, amps, a mic and PA for less than a trip to the cinema. Most towns don't have a place like this...
