The Vast of Night - 9/10

Doesn't really add anything new to the small-town supernatural genre, but it's incredibly well put together and has some incredible sound design and cinematography. The atmosphere throughout is creepy and a bit off kilter but never veers off into ridiculous pastiche like so many low budget films/homages do.

We’ve been seeing to the kids‘ education.

Started with The Goonies, and now working our way through the Back To The Future films (one left to watch).

Next up possibly ET, Indiana Jones (1-3 only, Crystal Skull was rubbish), Flight of the Navigator, maybe Short Circuit.

Then not sure what. Suggestions?

The kids are loving the ones we’ve watched so far. They’re too young for Jaws, by the way.

Some excellent suggestions already. I’ll add Time Bandits (my brother was obsessed with that film when he was a kid),
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
Dougal and the Blue Cat, which is one of Mark Kermode’s favourites, apparently.
The Pink Panther films, maybe?

To the Devil a Daughter

Hammer horror with a bit of seventies soft porn thrown in, even Christopher Lee can't raise it above a merely passable level.

How on earth could I forget Time Bandits? It was one of my favourites as a kid. In fact, I think I wore the VHS tape out watching it over and again.

The Corner. Melissa McCarthy, Elizabeth Moss. Bloody dark - I don't mean the theme, I mean the picture. The cinematographer liked gloom that's for sure. T'was OK and I'd give it a legitimate 6/10 where 12 is the highest score.
