Bad Day For The Cut, via Netflix.
Set in Northern Ireland, what appears to be a quiet loving farming mother and son relationship is torn apart and vengeance follows.
I don' know if it was deliberate but the action kind of ambles along, a bit like the middle aged farmer son.
The initial story line is a it weak IMO but coupled with the other theme running alongside it, it made up for it.
Good good film....but the ending ?

I tried watching Alien Covenant, but gave up after the constant slipping in the blood scenes.

Unable to suspend my disbelief.

3/10

Four Brothers.

Violent thriller, in which four adopted brothers hunt down the ne'er do wells who shot their Mum during a liquor store robbery. Interesting premise, predictably violent, quite watchable. 7/10.

Watched a couple of sci fi films at our local arts cinema; part of a sci fi season of films with notable scores.

Terminator, ie the first one. Not seen it in cinema originally, as it didn't really appeal as I'd assumed it more of a slash-n-stalk horror movie. Actually it's really good, and stands up well today. Very well acted, especially the leading lady, Arnie's defining role, clever plot, and action not too silly. Watching it, I realised I'd seen most of it on telly but never actually watched it all the way through.

And today, a total contrast, !watched Arrival, which again I'd not caught when it came out. Maybe not for anyone expecting Star wars, but I thought this was a fantastic bit of intelligent sci fi about ideas and sense of wonder. Slow paced, which was for me, the right pace, fantastic acting from lead Amy Adams, and just looked great. Some similarities with Interstellar, but rather better in my view. Brilliant !

Ella Enchanted - 3/10

Anne Hathaway is very good in what is basically a poor version of Princess Bride, but with stupid gimmicks which fail to make up for the lack of charm or any other interesting characters.

They sing a song at the end for no reason at all, which is my main memory of an otherwise dull film. Though it did entertain our toddler, who was worn out and grumpy so that's a positive.

the original Terminator was brilliant, i watched it many times.

the flaw was Sara Kyle and their son Jon , how did that happen in the first place? as Sara tought her son to beat the machines, even though she hadn't met Kyle ?
once you realize its not possible " yes its sci fi" the film was a legend of a movie

Act of Valor.
Meh...it was ok, the usual deep manly voiced macho military story, the action was ok but the acting wouldn't attract any Oscars ^_^

The Book Thief. Story of a young girl in a small German town to & thru' WW2. Lots to like about it, but for me it suffered one awful flaw - the characters spoke English viz bad cherman accents, and when there was a really simple word, they said it in German. Do you sink zey vill return? Nein! I find it really jarring. But other than that, perfectly serviceable, if unremarkable. Maybe 7? I'm feeling generous.

Huh?

Sarah Connor got pregnant by Kyle Reese, who was the resistance fighter sent back in time.
She gave birth to John Connor, taught him about the rise of the machines etc. and he became the resistance leader and sent Kyle Reese back to save his mother.

This. It was Terminator 3 that f*cked the timeline up.
