OK. Not a "classic" and 1st 20 mins I was wondering about giving up but hung-on and it improved. Low budget but some well known actors. Not particularly thought provoking and a bit obvious storyline but entertainment.

28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.

Went with a mate who wanted to see this fourth instalment of the 28 Days Later series. I was skeptical from the off since it followed the last one quite rapidly and the title makes it sound like a sketchy half-arsed spin-off... sadly watching it confirmed that it was pretty much a sketchy half-arsed spin-off.

Granted I've not seen the third (but love the first and quite like the second) but in isolation it just wasn't very good. While it had the odd moment it generally seemed disjointed and directionless; unfeasible and plot-holed, gratuitiously graphic and sadistic (not bothered with zombies eating people, more bothered by people torturing people - especially when not underpinned by the gravitas of being part of a decent film).

Obviously if you're going to smack four films out of the zombie genre they have to progress beyond the initial apocalyptic event, but I'm not a fan of the way this has gone. I think this detracts from the franchise and the tie in to the first film at the end just feels like a cheap shot at redeeming it by association.

Unlike the viserally arresting first film this didn't really engage me on any level other than "oh, that's not very pleasant".

It apparently reviewed well (7.6 on IMDB) but I was far from impressed. 4/10; would not recommend.

I haven't seen the movie, but I've seen the scene where they dance to The Number of the Beast. A bit meh.

Reminds me I've still not gone to see this, I better get my skates on as I think it'll disappear soon.

Apparently it's not done great in the cinema, so the 5th film is in doubt.

The X Files on Disney + Mulder and Scully at their very best, great story too, they both meet the Aliens and see the Alien ship too.

Saw this in the cinema way back when, never seen it since, remember it was great though and a real gem for X Files fans.

Each to their own and all that, I watched the Bone Temple last night and thought it was brilliant. But then again I'm a sucker for a zombie flick.
Ralph Fienns is absolutely brilliant and I'm a big fan of Jack O'Connell.
Roll on part 5.

Yes, my mate had been wanting to watch it for a while and I think it's probably nearing its the end of its run. Will be interesting to hear what you think if you do see it.

Apparently it's certainly divisive

I love the genre too (28DL and the original Dawn of the Dead are two of my favourite films). To me the Bone Temple just smacks of trying to push the concept beyond its natural viable limits. A bit like the Walking Dead - was transfixed by that when it came out; made it to what, series 7 and just found it increasingly far-fetched, unrewarding repetitive and difficult to get into.

Agree about the acting - can't really criticise that, or the production... my issue is really the core story and quality of the writing.

You have to watch the whole movie to understand the context of that clip
This is true, but even then I think it was a bit clunky and cringe-inducing... however maybe that was intentional given the context.

100% this. I'm gonna sound like such a film w*nker here, but everything in Bone Temple makes sense.

It's not a spinoff. One more and I reckon Garland walks away.
Without getting into particulars that might spolit for others, even if you like the general story I still think it was full of plot holes while the some of the characters were pretty shallow and on occasion their behaviour made little sense.

The concepts all seemed rational (the feral kids, pseudo-religeous cults, doctor trying to find a cure etc) but I didn't much like the way a lot of these manifested.

Having slept on it I feel a little less hostile towards it this morning, but still certainly wouldn't bother watching it again.

Started watching Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri yet again.

Just one of best films ever. Just love Woody Harrelson and Frances McDormand in it. Foul mouthed deadpan humour at it's best.

The Truman Show
Ahead of it's time in it's depiction of people being hyper interested in reality type shows, reels, videos as they are now. It's very touching and only gets more so every time you watch it. A good game to play is trying to spot all the cameras they have setup.

24 Hour Party People

The story of Factory Records and the Hacienda nightclub, it's pure nostalgia for me as although I'm too young to have experienced this, the locations they film at around Manchester are very recognizeable Inc the old Gilly's Rockworld, Ritzy Ballroom and The Apollo theatre. Apparently Steve Coogan knew Tony Wilson and had worked with him, and performed at the Hacienda in the 1980s. Its a simple film that deals very well with some difficult issues.

Two of my favourites. The Truman Show in particular.
