The Martian and Artemis, both by Andy Weir are both far fetched, but within what's possible according to the laws of physics. Project Hail Mary is closer to Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. It is a nice entertaining fantasy book/movie.

Thanks for that review!
I preferred Star Wars and LotR to The Martian and Artemis. YMMV.

Roofman (Paramount+). Based on a true story - Channing Tatum plays a man who broke into 2 McDonalds to steal money, then created a new life with a woman and her kids whilst trying to evade capture. We enjoyed it a lot

The Killer on Netflix. It is a John Woo film that does exactly what it says on the tin.
Well worth a watch if you are in the mood for that kind of thing. Action fluff if you are not.

Blade Runner (1882)

Haven't seen this for about 40 years. Atmospheric and visually impressive, but the acting and plot haven't aged well (or maybe it is me). Ford seemed to be going the the motions and hardly putting any effort into his craft. Mrs Cisamcgu was not impressed at all and I was unable to offer many rebuttals to her criticisms of the film.

Hugely influential it may be, but one of the greatest sci-fi films ever made - I don't think so.

p.s. Anyone else noticed that you cannot read imdb reviews without creating an account now ?

Project Hail Mary for me too - 8/10

Not having read the book I had no idea what to expect, and they gave nothing away in the trailer. Thought the first half lagged a little, and I don't want to give anything away, but it definitely picked up, both ok terms of story and humour.

Not entirely convinced by the ending, but it was a fun couple of hours overall, and Ryan Gosling is always good value.

I generally don't bother with reviews so have not even tried IMDB but I noticed that Wikipedia page for most films have a "Reception" section which summarises press review reactions as well as Rotten Tomatoes audience feedback and sometimes other audience review summary sites.

Quadrophenia

I had seen it before many decades ago on tv, but on rewatching really appreciated just how good it is. A very young Phil Daniels superb in the lead as a young mod trying to rebel but still very much wanting to belong to a tribe. Portrays the excitement (for some) of the violence between mods and rockers, without glamorising the stupidity and hooliganism of it all. Pace, acting, and visuals first class. Apparently the film was a few years after the rock opera album it is based on. Excellent cast includes Ray Winston, Sting, Lesley Ash, Toyah, Michael Elphick and many more who went on to be stars or sucessful character actors. I thought it stood the test of time rather better than Tommy which we also watched recently. The Tommy movie is a through-sung as a proper (rock) opera, whilst Quadrophenia is a conventional narrative movie with a soundrack.

an enjoyable film, I think it must have come out circa 1978/79 around the time of the Mod revival, it was all the rage at high school

79 apparently, though I don't recall much talk of it at the time. I'd have been in the 6th form or first year uni
