What gear do you leave the bike in when you get home?

First derailleur lasted over 10K miles before it had to be replaced due to unrelated failure so I'll carry on.

Yeah, but 10K miles is nothing for a derailleur. I'm not sure why you mentioned it.

How many people have had a spring failure in a derailleur? How old was it?

Sorry, in future I will seek your permission to post something.

Or you could explain the relevance, if you prefer.

I don't do it, and my derailleur has 30,000km on it. So everyone should follow me!
It was just a statement of fact, a contribution to the thread.

The point was self explanatory: I was happy with the life of my derailleur (as in it was working fine until chain failure caused it to be ripped off), so I would carry on with my habit. I didn't imply, instruct or anything else that anybody should follow me or treat it as advice.

I really don't know why you're questioning my intention.

A nice easy one for starting off the next morning .
I don't think you need to worry about spring tensions . Materials used to make springs are more than capable of keeping their springiness .

Carbon fibre... LMAO!!!
36T chainring and 34T sprocket coz that's the gear I use to get home coz I'm a proper granny like wuss.
I can't say I've ever heard of a derailleur failing due to spring tension weakening. The bearings in my opinion are likely to go before that even becomes a slight possibility.

Whatever gear I last used, but I always make sure that the electronic parking brake is engaged

Unlike cross chaining, cross threading is always good

I have . The hook end stretched and kept slipping off. I took it apart to try and fix but it was past fixing. About 30k miles . Replaced with new and within 3 months had broken the bottom bracket on the frame so it's now sat in the spares box

Data! Thanks.
Shimano Deore 9 speed fitted to the btwin riverside 7

Had 2 cassettes , 1 crankset and several chains if that's helpful in the data collection .

Got left in whatever gear it was in when I stopped as does the new Radon TCS disc 9
