Saw Paul Weller at Ludlow Castle on Friday night. Lovely venue, great weather and a thirty one song setlist including six Jam tracks. Smashing.

Saw The Maccabees at Bristol Harbourside. I've been wanting to see them for ages, so was glad they reformed and I've eventually got there. Warm night, nice location but seemed pretty rammed. I assume they know capacity limits etc, but ....

The mighty Hawkwind at Bradford Live. Excellent venue, good PA, some classic bangers they don't often play; Born to Go, Levitation, Steppenwolf. Founder and frontman Dave Brock will be 85 in a few weeks time. no idea if he's planning to retire or not. Backman (drummer) Richard Chadwick currently has a heart condition so he was up front on vocals, wielding a tambourine and playing bongos, which means they've got a new drummer who I reckon was the youngest person there by a good few decades. The Hawks finished their set with an encore of Spirit of the Age and Hurry on Sundown, which was nice

The Munyks - they're a 1960's garage band from Munich in Germany. They don't sound like The Doors but they reminded me of them. At the end of the set I realized that they didn't have a bass player. The keyboard player played the bass line on the keyboards in both bands.

Saw Bon Jovi last night at Wembley.
The visual production was excellent as you would expect from a stadium tour.
Jon’s voice surprised me, I was expecting it to be far weaker, but he was giving it the full beans. The band certainly didn’t lack energy.
My only complaint is the sound quality inside Wembley. It was just so muddy, with everything blending into one very loud mess.
I guess it’s hard to get the sound right in such a big space, and we were just in a bad area.

I used to deride Bon Jovi as cock rock nonsense, but have genuinely appreciated what he's done over the years. Pure theatre and great fun.

Not a gig but went to see the Oasis documentary in the cinema - Dont Look Back In Anger. Laugh out loud funny in places, amazing gig footage and genuinely emotional.

With modern stadium PA systems they've no excuse, unless they were using the old fashioned 'wall of sound' PA system.

They are the great survivors from the hair metal era. No other hair band is anywhere near selling out 3 nights at Wembley 40 years later.

We were probably 2/3 of the way up the pitch, so I just think there was too much reflected sound from the stands and roof.
