Fed an abandoned cat at work today. It's been around for a few days now and was in need of some food.
Contacted a cat shelter group (or whatever they're called) when I got home and offered to take it in for them to care for, should they want me too.
An update: the cat wasn't there on Saturday (I worked the weekend and was armed with some more catfood), but it was there again this morning. The weather has been filthy the last few days, so, not wanting the cat to be completely washed out, and not having had a reply to my e-mail, I drove to the cat displacement place and asked them if I could collect the cat and take it to them. I borrowed a cage and duly collected the cat and drove it back to them.
The cat, it turned out (via detective work with chips and databases) had been sent outside by its owners as they have just had a baby and wanted the house to be 'clean'. The cat (Sweetie) must have taken umbridge at this and went on a journey of discovery: it had been missing for a week and a half and had wandered about 3-4 km from home (not far, but through some dense forest, presumably making a return journey difficult).
Anyway, the owners will collect their (MY) cat this afternoon.
It was heartbreaking, though, seeing all the beautiful, but neglected and mistreated cats and dogs at the compound centre. Some people (and there are a LOT of them) should
never be allowed to own pets.
I gave a small donation and left, happy in the knowledge that Sweetie will soon be home again.
