A day outside working on the 29er. Fitted 2.25" tyres to the new Stan's Flow wheelset. I improvised and used a road tube to hold the bead in place, which worked well

Getting the beads seated was a bit of a struggle but could have been worse and the tyres are holding air without sealant.

Swapped rotors over. Swapped Pike select 130mm fork, for Reba rl 120mm fork and replaced angled headset. Swapped out the 117mm BB for 121mm. Tweaked and tightened it all up and took it for a 1 minute ride up the lane.

I seem to be doing more mechanics than riding at the moment, which is a pain but the wheels feel lighter and roll noticeably better without tubes

My SPD cycling shoes have been annoying me by squeaking during my recent rides. I have a 6 hour ride planned for tomorrow and would have been driven crazy (crazier?) by the noise so I just made subtle changes to the cleat positions. (They are mountain bike type shoes so the cleats are recessed. The bumpers either side of the cleats were rubbing on the pedals.) A quick test ride showed that 80% of the noise has gone. I am going to put some grease in the gaps now to try to deal with the remaining 20%. I will just have to remember not to walk on any carpetted floors without first taking the shoes off!

Rather than grease, GT85 works remarkably well for precisely this issue, and lasts a surprisingly long time in dry weather. Certainly well over 100km in my experience.
I was just looking across the room at a can of GT85 when you suggested that!

I was about to do the spraying in my kitchen but remembered not to this time. The last time I did that the house reeked of the solvent for 24 hours. I'll take the shoes outside to spray them and leave them out overnight.

PS Done!

Tomorrow I will probably be posting that I can't find my shoes...

Today I fettled a campervan. Just a day of total frustration.
Lots of bodywork removed, screws in neat piles.
Items fettled after a visit by a rodent.
Then found I had some screws left over.
Worrying but not mission critical, I hope.

I dare say you’ll find out one way or another, at some point in the future.

Good luck on your ride! Where are you going?
Ride up to Saltaire and I'll buy you a coffee 1.30 in the half moon cafe!

Has anyone seen my cycling shoes?

I thought that I had left them next to my can of GT85, but there is no sign of them!

Nice of you to offer, but this is a ride planned some time ago for the Ribble valley and back.

Train to Blackburn, then ride to Langho, Ribchester, Longridge, Goosnargh, Inglewhite, Chipping, Whitewell, Longridge Fell, Mitton, Whalley, Read, Padiham, Burnley, Todmorden. Carefully measured to be 111 km, or 'my age in miles'.

Anyway - I had better stop messing about and get ready!

A quick tweak that went easily, 5mm allen key to loosen left grx400 brifter clamp to line it up with the flared drops, similar to right which felt far more comfy.

Still can't get over how harsh the wrapped alloy bars are on the egravel, compared to my unwrapped Primavera bars on my road bike with the bulbous 505 brifters, despite 27vs33mm tyres!

Thinking of pushing my luck and using 2mm allen key to "quickly" slightly reduce reach of levers on both brifters.

Tyres are one the major sources of suspension on a bike. Since your e gravel has narrower tyres, I take it you’re running them at higher pressure.

Other way around, road bike has 27mm front and egravel has 33mm front now (was a 40mm basic Nano and that felt harsh too).

Currently running 65 PSI front and 65 rear for 33/38mm real world width Supremes, me 96Kg and egravel 15Kg, with tubes.
