As long as I breathe, I attack.
cleaned the commuter as it was covered in all sorts of mud etc and noticed the head tube had some play in it whilst checking brake bite so i nipped it up .I also noticed the brake pads could do with replacing soon but i couldn’t adjust the brake properly till tomorrow as after the clean i need to let bits dry as i can hear brake rub from the water still in the gap and it was getting dark enough so i couldn’t see the gaps properly to adjust the pads .

Mended my father's Trek 700 hybrid. He'd fallen off and the brake didn't work.

A spring had come out of the rear V-brake (easily fixed) and the cable out of the left lever (again, easily fixed). In the process I discovered the seatpost was stuck - he wanted it down a bit - so that's a future job.

I hope you fix it. I was given a (cheap) bike for fixing up. The first thing I tried was to remove the saddle stem. Nothing I did could coax that thing out of the seat tube. I ended up beating it down and dumping the bike. It really was a piece of junk, though. I learned to put a light layer grease on the seat stem.

The grubscrew arrived that I had ordered last week off The Bay. I only ordered one as I only needed one for my Shimano 451 front brake, glad I did as it was one pack of 10 I guess. The option was 1 or 5. Anyway, the grub screw fits well and now I can centre the brake with an Allen key and not screwdriver that never did fit that well. Why is it that all my other Shimano brakes centering screw has an Allen head and this one is a cross between a Philips or flat ? I have 9 spares !

If it is a genuine Shimano product, it requires a JIS (Japanese Industery Standard) screwdriver. It is not a standard Philips.

Not been active in bike repairs or much maintance for a long time but have paid for a used Titanium frame and looking forward to changeing bits over (when it arrives) from an old Engima Etap thats to small and been unused for years.
Have a garage full of bikes and to any non cyclist may seem daft but really looking forward to a few short test runs then a long full day out on the new to me bike when the weather improves.
Also stoping collecting bikes if i do buy another then one has to go.

Thought changing old cleats for new would be a 5 minute job. Think again. These are Look Keo ones, by the way. Not one of the 6 bolts would budge. Had to angle grind as much of the plastic cleat off as possible and turn what was left with a mole grip. The plastic these cleats are made of are serious heavy duty. The 5 minute job took an hour. I greased the new bolts, as I always do, but it makes little difference after they've been on the shoe for a couple of years 😬

New cranks for commuter arrived already, so fitted those with new chain, cassette and bottom bracket. Had to re-index rear gears.

Quick test ride showed no slipping, so all good.

Photo especially to keep ocd members awake tonight.
