What Have You Fettled Today?

Fitted a new Shimano Tiagra 50T chainring this morning, removed the crankset, stripped it down, cleaned the spider, fitted the new 50T chainring, then refitted the existing 34T chainring and tightened it all together using a torque wrench. Reinstalled and tested.

Quick chain clean on the commuter - cheated and used the 'muck off' cleaner gadget for a change. Did a decent job, hosed off, then re-lubed.

Patched a tiny hole on a TPU tube. Most probably a pinch flat from putting on the tyre (Vittoria RideArmor on a Remerx Top Disc rim).
The RideArmor was fairly difficult to mount - thanks to the tubless tightness.
Unfortunately the tyre manufacturers switch to tubeless more and more and easy to mount tube type tyres become rare.

Inserted the headset in the new commuter frame (2023 Genesis Croix de Fer frame set), cut the threads for the bottom bracket, face milled the bottom bracket shell, attached bottom bracked and crank set.

A while back I bought some MKS Sylvan Touring Next pedals for the Trek FX Sport 6. I figured a bike like that deserved nice pedals. They were buttery smooth out of the box and they seemed really nicely finished.

So sometime later I bought some of the regular MKS Sylvan Touring pedals for the Trek District 4. Buttery smooth, these were not. So I put them on the shelf and forgot about them for a while.

In the meantime I did some reading up (mainly of the CTCCycling UK forum) and found an extra ball bearing and some extra grease would have them much improved. I can now verify this. Said pedals are now attached to this. Few jobs still to do before it's ready to ride, the most taxing of which will be trying to manufacture a bracket to fit my three blinkies on the rear rack, due to the non-round pannier rack stays.

Last night the Tarmac SL7 got a fresh waxed chain and a tweak to the saddle position before a 100km ride planned for tomorrow (Saturday).

After moving a pile of soil from one part of the garden to another I moved into the shade, tuned in to Planet Rock and started Fettling.

Fitted the skin wall WTB Byeways that came with my ebike to the Trucker plus a new multi-clip to the Rixen-Kaul bar bag QR. Fitted a wireless Sigma computer

Rando bag arrived so fitted the QR fixing to the front carrier of the Cross-Check

New stem arrived for the bike I was given (a rebadged Kinesis Racelight) so fitted the bars, saddle, cables, chain, pedals, and swapped the tyres. Just need to torc the bolts and adjust brakes and gears to get it roadworthy
