I fettled this yesterday with a view to flipping it. Dawes Super Gal. 2002 I'm guessing.

Mrs T is off on a short tour with her mates...

...one of whom arrived with a bike with a front tyre dangerously cracked and perished and a rear worn through to the carcass. So off to Halfords with her to get replacements. Brakes were also in need of adjustment, and the front caliper was loose.

Once they departed into the sparkling Cheshire sunshine* it was time for a fettle of my best bike, partly to try and solve the out of the saddle creak and partly because I've done a lot of miles recently and it deserves it.

Removed cranks and BB; the latter was very hard to shift. Took the chainrings off, the bolts absolutely seized and showing some corrosion around the fastenings. Then bottle cage off, and gave the frame a polish, something never previously attempted! Pedals removed and threads regreased. Cleaned the chain and cassette, replaced everything, greasing all contact surfaces. A bit of a rattle when bouncing it was solved by tightening the headset.

Oh, and weighed it out of interest, just under 9.5kg incl pedals which is respectable for an xxl steel bike I think.

Now looking good, but it's far too wet to take it out to test.**

** just now took for a very quick spin in a dry interlude, I think the creak has gone :okay:

Was replacing rotors and pads on both the front and rear of my wife’s commuting bike. It’s fitted with 105 hydraulic brakes. Front went smoothly but the rear was a sod. The pad axle was completed seized, don’t think it had been out before and the screw head seems to be made of cheese and started chewing up.

What should have been a simple job ended up with the calliper having to be split and, thankfully, a pair of grips from the inside managed to get the axle turning and able to be removed. Reassembly meant bleeding the brakes. A split pin, that came with the new pads has been used until another pad axle arrives from SJS. This time it’s going to be one with a hex head and not one of those stupid flat head ones. A bit of copper grease is also getting applied.

The Peaty's sealant experiment is over! After todays tiny p'ture that wouldn't seal and just made a glittery mess, I came back cleaned the tyre out. It re-seated dry and with a track pump, with only a tiny slow from that tiny hole (stress tiny). Filled the tyre up with Orange seal and the hole sealed instantly without ejecting sealant! Serves me right for trying to buy British 🤦‍♂️

I had a similar Peaty's event with a brand new Gravel tyre earlier this year and assumed it was the lack of pressure in my Gravel tyres, so I gave Peaty's another chance #mistake 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Yer. My ‘86 Renown was 23lb - about 10kg in ‘new money’. The top of the range Imperial was 22lb. Of course, nowhere near the 6/7kg of todays Tour bikes, but certainly no ‘iron horse’.

My Swytch Max++ kit for my Brompton has finally arrived!
I've assembled it, and then realised that I completely forgot about positioning things so that it will fold.
Problem for another day.
I've also found that the front hub rubs against the front forks very slightly. I can either try to find a suitable nut/washer to pack the axle out and create a gap, or I can use a big hammer to make a small dent in the forks and create a gap that way. Currently leaning towards the 'Big Hammer' approach.

New 9 speed 11-34 cassette with KMC chain installed on my recent purchased Ridgeback World Panorama. I think the gear cable needs replacing as the shifting is irregular and not as precise as it should be, despite many indexing adjustments.
Ordered new Shimano cables, outer and inner, to fight another day. 🤞🙃🤞

I took my Alban panniers off the Dahon and put them on my Ruff ebike. Attached a basket to the carrier of the Dahon.

Finished cobbling together the dishing tool. Section of cast-off ‘narrow’ rim, couple of shop bought drilled plates, length of threaded bar, three nuts and a washer.
Junior hacksawed the grommet lip where the spoke goes through; grommet out and drill out the hole to fit the bar; nut and washer at the top end, nut to tighten it up to length, third nut as the piece of bar was a hair short of reaching the quick release hub. Plates bent to suit, bolted through spoke holes with £shop nuts & bolts.
Could have probably got away with a length of spoke and two bulldog clips, but heigh-ho.

I see you have the obligatory flat AA batteries safely contained in an aerosol lid - top marks for being on point!
