6 (?) further hours building this to the absolute best of my OCD abilities today . Everything is lubed, dialed in and aligned 110% - bar both brakes - as I’m waiting on ‘revised’ parts for both ends…..👍

Had a day off from cycles and mended this kissing gate.

Even though I’m waiting on brake parts for my 24” Cruiser BMX build - I did ‘jury rig’ the rear brake last night to get some idea of if everything was going to work.

A resounding “Ish” was the answer. Felt pathetically weak in essence. I’ve used the same brake levers (My favourite and on all my BMX’s) on plenty of different types of caliper before ? Maybe I should Google it - as this is my very first V-Brake…….which are common on the rear of BMX race bikes. And Google came back to me with:

“The Dia-Compe Tech-77 is a classic, short-pull brake lever designed to work with caliper, cantilever, and traditional U-brakes. They are specifically designed for short-pull braking and are not compatible with V-brakes (linear-pull) 🤦‍♂️

So: seeing as I’ve got a side pull on the front and a V-brake on the rear - does that mean i’ll need two different types of lever ? *Over my dead body ! If i do - my cycling career is over. My OCD would literally go hypersonic and I’d probably turn inside out and implode at the same time. Not gonna happen 😡

So I go back to Auntie Google. She suggests a ‘Cable converter’ to adjust the throw may be available. The reviews look good and say they work well. I can’t find one easily in the UK; so they are coming from Ali Express - and should be around 8 days.

Current set-up:

The Cable Converter below that I’ve bought a couple of: maybe replaces the whole 90 degree Noodle by the look of it ?

**CONFIRMED - I found a picture of one installed:

Bare with. Back faster than you can say “Express Shipping from China”…..🙄

You can get brake levers with dual pull ratio capability, short pull for caliper brakes or long pull for V-brakes, as far as I remember they have 2 possible mounting holes for the cable clip on the lever body you just swap the clip over.

Yea I’ve seen those before - thanks 🙏

As I said - I’ve currently got my very favourite levers fitted. The same as already on my two other BMX’s. I’d really like to keep the same if I can !

They fit my hand and eye. And are spring loaded; so always provide a really positive action. Plus forged Aluminium lever and clamp / body. And it’s a hinged clamp so can replace / remove the lever without taking grips off. **So much going for them (Apart from not working with V-Brakes 🙄)

On my road bike the chain kept getting stuck in biggest cog on the cassette and wouldn't change down to smaller cog without physically moving the derailleur. I assumed it would be the cable fraying somewhere (Shimano 11sp 105)
However the cable was fine and I found the jockey wheel was too close to the biggest cog and was stopping the chain moving off .
I adjusted the B screw a bit to create a bigger gap and it worked fine.
Weird thing is why hasn't this been a problem before, have done about 10,000 miles with the cassette and not altering the B screw setting!

Next job. This is going to take a lot of fettling and not much cycle mechanic skills. Did go to survey it on a bike though. ^_^
