My LBS rang to say my New Custom wheels (DT Swiss XM 421 Rims, Hope Pro5 Hubs, Sapim CX Spokes) were ready.

So I went down to collect; and fitted the new lighter tyres, TPU Tubes, light weight discs and Titanium bolts. Final weighing reveals just over a 1500g / 1.5kg saving on the outgoing set-up. Coupled with also saving at least 100g on carrying around 2 lighter spare innertubes) - so that’s 1.6kg plus saving essentially.

Also should mean the 11.4kg stock bike weight of the Trek FX-3 Hybrid: should now be well under 10kg with the already upgraded seat post, pedals, grips, seat clamp etc etc - and different Geometry (But also lighter) handlebars to come.

Going to be very interesting to see how much difference I notice in the riding. Climbing (All relative - this is Suffolk) and accelerating especially……..

Bit of a fettle of the Stayer OG this afternoon ; checked gears etc and sorted some storage issues outlook off the Restrap strap pack and put an anything cage in it's place with a storage can for the tubeless stuff.

Checked the tyres and re-filled with fresh sealant ; rear valve was gummed up so had to remove the core to get the air out but was fine once cleaned with brake cleaner, will remove tyres and clean out the sealant in the autumn/early winter.

Brakes will need a bleed at some point

Hope to get out on it next week so will see how the brakes feel then if they are good enough I'll wait until I have to change the pads which still have some life left at the moment.

……..other people’s bikes. During a ride; today 🙄

Diamond of a guy that he is: The last three rides out with others:

1. Spent 3/4 hour silly early on a Sunday - looking for a ‘sender’ battery under the hoods on someone’s road bike - for his Di2: as he’d arrived with it flat bar the shouting…..

2. Sorting out someone else’s puncture - they were not prepared for 🙄

3. Today - providing equipment to sort out a deflating tyre. This to a guy who rides more often than I breathe. And must have a very conservative £25k worth of bikes.

I was calm. It really didn’t bother me. I’m just more amazed than anything……

I've seen that on group rides, some go out with zero spares or the knowledge to use them. I'm always happy to help but as you say it makes me wonder what some people think. Do they go out assuming that either they won't ever have a problem or if they do someone else will sort it.

A few taxis home will change their attitude.

The guy I / we helped today is genuinely a really lovely guy. But possibly a bit of a ‘scatter brain’ (?) - who forgets the basics (?).

Today’s bike was mostly Titanium, £3k+ of wheels, I’m told the top SRAM Red Di2 Groupset, a Brand new out; Carbon / oval chainring crank etc etc **So he DEFINITELY didn’t forget to order all of the latest expensive Tech 🤣

*And some spares. Inc tyre plugs, mini bottle of slime etc. But NOTHING to inflate should he need. Which he then did ! I was about to hand a cartridge of gas over - when one of the others announced he had a ‘pukka mini pump’.

No biggie as such…….especially as we were there to help 😂

One of my chum does motorbike trail riding and people do the same on that. He and the guide ended up mending one guys puncture while the chap was in the pub with the rest of the chaps. It was just easier than any other choice.
