Trying to breathe new life into my neglected and abused 2012 Carrera Virtuoso which has been recently reintroduced for commuting duty.
The weekends mega degrease and oiling of the drive train has worked wonders. Though it’s currently working as a 2x7 not a 2x8 speed, as it refuses to move up to the largest cog despite tinkering with the rear derailleur setup following the ParkTools video, I suspect I need to adjust the index position but the barrel adjuster won’t budge and the gear cable is frayed up to the nut. I didn’t want to undo that yet as I was still using the bike up until today.
The gear cables need full replacement so it can be set up correctly, so tonight while I wait to collect new inner & outer gear cables tomorrow I thought I’d grease the headstock bearings, a rust stain can be seen on the fork coming from the lower bearing. It works satisfactorily but isn’t super smooth turning.
Anyway, steel forks are fused in the aluminium frame, a rubber mallet and a quick squirt of WD-40 isn’t working so it’s now soaking overnight with more WD-40. Hopefully, it releases its grip tomorrow!
Lesson learnt will do more preventative maintenance in future rather than running it into the ground like I did before.

Changed tyres on the Yedoo Wolfer RS.
The 32mm Vredestein Superpasso replace the old 28mm Vittoria Rubino Pro and subjectively the new tyres are more supple (surely one effect of the lower tyre pressure) and rolling resistance seems to be a tad less.
Due to the 3.44km test ride today as the only experience for me with these tyres I don't dare to make claims about wear and puncture resistance.

Bit of fettling on the Bianchi turbo bike included quick adjustment on the front mech (di2), tightened the tension on the look pedals and finally fitted a front brake to lock on the front wheel so it's a bit more stable when out of the saddle.

Last year, on our trip to Brugge and Ypres, the rack mount lug on my wife's alloy framed Trek broke. (Zip ties to the rescue!)
A few days ago I bought a Galaxy Ultra from Ebay and today took the train to Clapham Junction to pick it up and ride home.
Once home it was lightly stripped, chain, cassette, deraileurs cleaned (they were very oily / greasy).
Rear rack had a few rust patches so that was prepped and sprayed. Front tyre was a Bontrager 28mm so that was replaced with a new Marathon plus to match the rear along with a new innertube. Then just a general clean and polish before reassembly.
Rack is hanging in the garage drying.

Make shift rear mudguard fitted today. Had an old mudguard in the shed which had cracked on the bracket that fastens to the seat post, rather than throw it decided to retro fit it to the bike. Que a Stanley knife and two drill holes to the side and bobs your uncle.
That weld needs fettling.😉
More concerning, is there a crack on the seat post?

Its a better weld than I could do but yes probably not the best weld to come out of the Felt factory! 😂

Had a bit of time yesterday after decorating and today after watching the Yorkshire crit championships to finish off the Peugeot 653. Outer (white brake and red gear - because I've got 50 metres of red gear cable and about 20 metres of white brake cable 
), inner cables from a Dura-Ace 9000 shifters that arrived with European style cables, a used chain plus some white Bontrager handlebar tape that's been in the parts shed for far too many years. Is it obvious this build has been done on a budget? 
All done until I get the rear wheel sorted.
