Thanks - first ride this am: and they were really good. And very comfortable. I loved the riding position ‘on a run’. But for just a change of position if nothing else - they are ace. And were £8 from Amazon 😁

Hands are ok thanks ! No worse than when I started 👌 (Still a VERY slight feeling in 2 fingers slowly going since Dynamo). And way better during and after today: compared to any other recent ride. And until you kindly asked - I’d not really thought about it. That in itself is a good sign 😁
I spent 60% (?) of my time on the inner handles. And when on the grips - I of course then noted the extra width: but probably more so noted the vibration. A combination of resonance (?) or similar, thin hard grips and thin, pretty much unpadded Summer type gloves. So I’ll be trying much more padded gloves first ride back from Holidays.
I think with lower tyre pressures, inner hand grips, options of hand positioning, more padded gloves - there’s immediate hope and signs of an improvement to the numbness.

Approx 2 1/2 hour very deep clean, lube, check bolts etc etc . So it’s 100% ready to ride upon my return from vacation…..

Phew!
Turns out Humbrol Gloss Cream is a match for the spray pint I used on the frame! Props to their gloss Service Brown for the head tube decor, also.
So here is the most recent iteration of the 1952 (?) Carlton Mass Start, will be in the window of my FLBS Monday am:

Used my nice, new derailleur hanger and STI lever adjustment adaptor to set up the brifters on my bike. I'm surprised how far out they were - the left hand one was more than 1cm lower than the right - considering they looked level to my eye, even with new spectacles 
Having sorted that I thought I'd service the head bearings which were is surprisingly good condition. When reassembling that I thought it was time to do something about the peeling paint of the steerer spacers. So, some time spent removing the old paint, sanding the alloy spacers, degreasing with isopropyl alcohol and then spraying with automotive paint. Just waiting for it all to dry before adding a clear coat and reassembly tomorrow (hopefully).
Also spent a bit more time t-cutting the frame. I'm only doing small bits at a time and it's starting to look better but where the cables have been rubbing the head tube isn't ever going to look the way I'd like it to.

Sorted through some tyres and the spare wheels so now know where everything is and what needs getting rid; also labelled up the wheel bags as they are mostly all the same bags (got some Miche ones really cheap trash price from Chicken) and will save me going through them all to find the wheel I'm after.
Also deciding wether to strip down a wheel set to use the hubs(SP fit and LX rear) for a 26" build for a future utility bike based on Diamond Back steel frame.

The Geo of some of those old frames is…...er……old. I tried to buy a very early 90’s: 20” GT Triple Triangle F+F and after asking how tall I was - the guy th edm wouldn’t sell it to me 🤣 He reckoned it was more like a modern medium and I’d look like a Circus act……

Again geo is different to my other bikes so the top tube is long enough but the seat post tube is way shorter so will have a lot of post showing, wheelbase ok.
Don't have any 26" wheels so can't really set it up to try.
Transfers for the orange bike are now in place.
As mentioned previously I'm impressed with their quality but, oddly and inexplicably, the 'Rainbow' 5-stripe section of the World Championship bands for the seat tube are roughly half the height of those fitted back in 1976. Still; that's a minor grouch which no-one would notice (never mind even know in the first place) unless the bike is placed beside one in original finish.
Time to give it a coat of lacquer...

Edit : Just for fun here's a composite shot of (top) my bike snapped around 1988 and a restored bike I saw in Crystal Palace in August 2024. The different sizes of seat-tube bands can just about be discerned. Those on the lower frame are identical to the bands I received from H. Lloyd so at a guess Lloyd also supplied those transfers to whoever undertook the respray.
One other detail on the lower bike is that the owner has opted to fit a metal Holdsworth badge on the head-tube. I know (through reading the Norman Kilgariff page on the 'Pro') that the early H-C team bikes had such badges but IIRC this feature (on the Professional) was changed sometime in the early 1970's(?);

Had a fettle of the BH's Kona mostly to try and get the rear Magura brake sorted, after some faffing got it ok but will have to be test ridden at some point; noticed while giving it a wipe over that the cranks had a bit of play in them so stripped it all out and re-assembled and now all good and torqued up.
Did a check of the tyres on my fleet and re-arranged the tool bags on the Stayer OG as the Restrap one was too bulky so giving an old Alpkit one a try, still not convinced but again will give it a test ride.

Having joined in @sevenfourate thread about comfort on flat bar bikes I took some time to review my three bikes and how they treat my hands.
The Spa is the most comfortable, but the cheapy grips are sticky, so today I cycled to St John St Cycles and bought and fitted a pair of Ergon grips. So much better. I also took 2cm off each end of the bars, which may have been a mistake...
The Temple, when I think about it, has bars that are too swept-back at 45 deg., so I've ordered another 30 degree bar.
I'm out on the Genesis ebike tomorrow, and will, no doubt, come home with another shopping list
