I’ve never used any tools to put a tyre on the rim even a Marathon Plus on a Brompton. The technique is to roll and push to make sure the tyre is in well of the rim. In the end it just pops on. As a last resort I may use a bit of soap to help it seat.
PANARACER tyres: being Japanese - are supposed to come up dead on size with no leeway. When fitted new; my shop took 35 minutes for the rear. The owners Son (Young - but probably changed more tyres than me you and everyone else in this thread combined) said it was about if not the worst combo he’d ever come across.
And I suspect I’m only able to get on now - as it’s stretched / settled / been used for a few months etc. I’m sure there’s worse - but this is supposedly up there amongst the very best.
I broke both sides of the tyre off the bead, and worked into the centre of the rim as best I could. I had a few goes and was really going nowhere - the last part of the tyre on the last side being nowhere near going on. Then voila - I could see it was closer: so one final roll / push with my now raw thumbs and on she went.
**Are you saying you literally roll the wheel around to force the tyre up into the smallest radius of the rim - to then buy yourself space to hand fit the tyre ?
**Id love to see a video / link to someone on YouTube etc doing similar to help me fully understand your method……
