Years and Years (Netflix, 2019). For something made 6 years ago it has predicted quite a few things very well. It's strangely depressing and realistic.

A month into Apple TV and just finished Slow Horses (brill) and now started Severance which is looking very good after 2 episodes.

What else would you guys recommend from Apple TV?

Andor Series 2 - Episodes 7,8+9

This series is absolutely knocking it out the park, it really reminds you how good the original story (Empire vs Rebels) of Star Wars was without ever drifting into rubbish nostalgia baiting like so many of the recent SW offerings. I had a feeling that this week some pretty important events that we've seen in Star Wars Rebels (an animated series from 2014) should be covered and I was right, no spoilers but the writers of Andor very very cleverly weave their story and events into whats already established.

On the one hand I'm sad there are only 3 episodes left, but on the other given how good the first 9 have been I've got absolute confidence they'll be absolute gold with no filler or time wasting at all.

Shrinking is very understated. Something nice and light before bed.
Ted Lasso is very funny and well acted. No, it's not about football.

Not seen any of it yet but glad to hear it's living up to the first series.

In other news, I'm four episodes into series 6 of Cobra Kai and... it's lost its sense of humour. What started out as a wonderful send up of one of the worst movie franchises of all time, miraculously justifying the existence of all those unnecessary sequels now feels like an unnecessary sequel in itself. So far this is garbage but i will watch all fifteen episodes and hope they don't do a seventh series.

A few that might have gone under the radar:

Pachinko- Excellent
Servent- Horror lite. Entertaining enough.
Black Bird-. Prison drama. Excellent acting.
Silo- Hmm dystopian future. Started out ok, then declined.
Shining Girls- Timeshifting serial killer.
Sugar- Colin Farrell as a private detective with a difference.
Dark Matter- Quantum shifts. OK.
Drops of God- French Japanese wine tasting. Better than it sounds.

I did like Cobra Kai at the start, as you say it was nice to see all of the old characters on screen and you could accept the rather corniness of it all. But I gave up on series 5 - the emergence of new main characters were awful, and quickly became so bad that I switched off

We Own This City
Finished this and it's an enjoyable enough crime romp, as a power struggle in a seemingly otherwise stable crime gang threatens lives and livelihoods.

Trouble is I'm watching Mobland at the same time (not finished yet) and without comparing budgets or casts directly the story in Mobland is imminently more interesting.

WOTC almost forgets it's about coke dealing and gangs at times, it's not a bad show but I feel the crime angle could almost have been any other business that is being fought over whereas Mobland crime is at the front and centre all the time.

6/10

1 epsiode left, and we're absolutely lovin' it! I really like the focus on the families, the wheelin anna dealin, the double-crossing, the (relative) lack of fights/shootouts. It's clearly what the producers were aiming for. This may be the first drug drama I've watched where NOONE is shown actually consuming the stuff!
The writing is amazing - the tension is palpable; at this point every possible outcome is still in play. The three main protagonists all have a serious secret they are keeping from key people. Everyone needs someone else to do something, and has some sort of hold on someone else. Without it all seeming terribly contrived!

This City is Ours is good drama, but I don't think its good crime drama. Something that bugged me from the start is if (after the shipment is stolen) they are running the risk of losing control of the lines because they have no coke to sell why are the rival drug gangs not stepping in (because its not in the script lol). But I still enjoyed it so I won't complain.

Last episode is a good one :okay:

Two really good and different programs I have watched in recent months.
*Disclaimer, I love foreign drama with subtitles*
Reacher series 3 - Fantastic action from start to finish, and although it's been probably more than 20 years since I read the book, so my memory is not all that, it was close enough (for me) to the story line to do it justice. The big guy, whose name I forget, is awesome in the part, almost as I pictured Reacher from the description in the books, but I probably pictured him a bit older, though of course if they get to ten series that would probably meet my mental picture by then. His name just came to me, Alan Ritchson?

I've never been able to watch one of the so called Reacher films, and have no plans for that to change.
I don't mind cruise, but to cast him as Reacher was an ego trip to end all ego trips, disappointed Child signed it off really, but then I guess there was a mahoosive check (see what I did there) to act as a Persuader....

All4 App / Walter Presents - Cold Summer - set in the early 90s, and in a beautiful location.
It's not a fast moving action packed program, but it's beautifully shot, written and acted, 9/10 from me.
It was filmed in 2023, and is from book 1 of a 3 part trilogy, so dearly hoping for 2 more.........
