I should've posted this yesterday, seeing as it was FA Cup Final day. I remember watching the whole build up to the 3pm kick off, swapping channels from BBC to ITV, either on our black & white or newly bought colour tv, to see the fans arriving, the team buses arriving, the 'It's a Knockout' between some of the final's two sets of fans, 'meet the players families', etc etc. Both channels started their cup final coverage at about 10am, going right through to the cameras switching to Wembley to show the teams players walking onto the pitch to 'sample the atmosphere' in their matching suits and permed hair. Then we had the brass band playing Abide With Me before the players came out to be presented to the royal guest. I only watched the actual match yesterday on my phone, missing any pre match build up, if there was any to miss. In short, the tv coverage of the FA Cup Final was one of the big television eve ts of the year, but it seems that now it's just another football match shown on tv.

That was the good old days, you forgot the filming of the teams going to John Collier or Burtons to get their cup final suits, and the cup final record that every team seemed to make. 😂

Space 1999,
I used to watch this religiously when I was a kid.
It was always shown on a Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock after Weekend World.
I used to take in the Sci fi program quite seriously and found some parts a little bit scarey, but watching the re runs nowadays I just find it so corny, but nostalgic

I used to love that as well, 13:00 on a Sunday was a good time for TV, was the Australian show, Chopper Squad, on then as well?

Which brings to mind "Buck Rogers ..." although I suspect "he" wasn't what many viewers watched for.

The Sweeny. Great in it's day, but looks terribly dated now.

Ditto Minder.

I was watching Minder the other night and Terry sprung into action taking on a few baddies. Arthur and his cronies where all hiding away peeping around the corner watching Terry doing his stuff.
Everytime Terry put one of the villains down the camera would pan round to his wrong done friends showing a real cornie grins on their faces 🤣

I was a little bit too young for The Sweeney, when I was allowed to stay up and it was on the TV I seem to remember paying particular attention to the pub scenes, trying to spot a stripper in the background. 😂

I like watching the repeats now though.

Minder I liked at the time, but now I can take or leave it.

My favourite of that era was The Professionals, I blame them for me buying a Capri, now it doesn't hold up well but I was such a fan as a kid that I still watch it in a nostalgic way.

I thought this was a thread about remade TV shows, eg All Creatures Great and Small.

The original series was compulsory family viewing... am unsure I want to try the 2020 reboot.

We would watch repeats of both as kids in the '90s' and just slag them off terribly! 😆
With hindsight, this might have been a little bit unfair at times, but they did seem horribly dated to us.

Tell me, which one was it that had the 'The Pigeon Music' as we called it, i.e. the music in the recreational settings that just went

'Doo doo doo doo!'

A lot?

Buster Crabbe (Flash Gordon) also played the part of Buck Rogers in the 1939 movie.
I think twiki was called buddy in the film.
I know this because they showed the film on Freeview (vintage tv?) the other week

Space 1999 was also one where, we'd be watching it IN 1999 and thinking that if this was to happen, then they had better hurry up quick about it!

I think that if you are going to do these things, set it in a date that wont be within living memory, or at the very least, not about 20 years in the future! 😆

It also illustrated that they clearly thought that the '70s' was the absolute peak and that we'd still be living it 20 years later (or in the 25th century with Buck Rogers).
