Just realised I have just bought my latest car last Nov from the same garage I bought my first car from 30 plus years ago

My first car was Keith - a red Renault 5 with 70,000 miles on the clock. I absolutely adored him and drove him until he collapsed.

1978 Mini 1000. An absolute joy to drive.

I had a 1977 Mini 1000. Also a joy to drive and a very practical learning experience for maintenance and repair.

I had a Renault 5 too. I loved it so much.

Mine was 8 years old when I bought it in 1982 and it was already rusting away, tops of the wings, bottom of the doors and rear arches were all bubbling. Mrs Gunk's 13 year old Mini Clubman still looks as if it is 3 years old.

That was the ownership experience with a 1970's Mini!

We once did home - Edinburgh - Inverness - Fort William - Keswick - home in a week's tour, about 1000 miles with a 4 speed 'box. 😊

I think it was around 1987 when I bought it.

GSG 23D - a '66 Viva HA SL - £190. 120k miles on it when I bought it. The 'feature' I remember most was when driving at speed (well 65 mph) if you put the fan on you got bits of triplex (from a previous windscreen) blown into your face out of the vents.

Lots of visits to the scrapyard to keep it going but I learned a lot about cars, engines and gearboxes.

Oh - and servicing - 3 months or 3,000 miles!

1967 Hillman Minx. Bought in 1981 for £175. I was robbed. You still always love your first car, though.
