This magnificent machine, in 1988. Not a chance this would have got an MOT nowadays.

I had an 88 Maestro, mechanically it never gave me one problem. The bodywork was another thing....
My Dad had a Maestro
bought it because it seemed ideal and he felt guilty for buying foreign cars
Great for him - very light steering and quite high - as he was disabled and had to visit a lot of people in their homes it was suoerb for that

except for everything else

we used to joke that every time you close a door another piece of plastic flew off
not really a joke - it was true
and the 1.6 engine was basically a bored out version of the one he had in his old Morris Minor in the 1950s - not exactly over developed
and the front seats had to be replaced twice
and he part exchanged it after 2 years

My first car was an '82 Metro. One memory of it was attempting to travel to Cardiff from Bristol. I'd got onto the M4 at the M32 junction but British Leyland's finest 1L engine wouldn't accelerate enough to get me in to the middle lane. This meant that I ended up on the M5 southbound and had to do a U-turn at Almondsbury.

It eventually died (rusted subframe) and put itself out of my misery.

Had a white Mini before I passed my test it had more holes than Swiss cheese

Eventually along came Yuk 314h a mark one 1100 escort that was bought by dad whilst I was on a lads holiday in Blackpool and I paid for it when I got back .

Swapped the interior over so it had a full set of rs2000 seats and gauges  .

Those were the days

Reliant Regal Supervan 111. I only had a bike licence at the time so couldn't have anyting with an extra wheel. I have quite fond memories of the old heap, the joy of arriving at work on an icy winters morning without being in agony as my fingers thawed out.

With the front seat backrest down there was also room for some sinful activity of a night, this being in the days when a young man with any kind of car was a catch for a young lady.
Same here but a 'Saloon '.

NRE 577F, it was only 3 years younger than me at the time.

A Triumph Herald bought for £70.
I rolled it on the way to a day out at Alton Towers with the car ending up on its side. Leaving the car through a door which faced the sky, didn't make a good impression on the girl who was with me. As it was a long way back to near Stockport where I was living at the time, once the recovery truck had righted it, the oil level was checked and we limped home along A & B roads.

was this sinful activity any problem with only 3 wheels? Were approved positions/activities covered in a supplement to the owner's manual?
