Cats kill wildlife. And for that reason I'm not out.

I wouldn't mind cats if they didn't put considerable energy into crapping all over my lawn, killing wild birds, and chasing after my hens.

I think it's time to invest in a python...

Far be it from me to defend that Scouse git (:o) but the in second link he said he imagined Yenners as David Brent (fair point!) and I couildn't see a quote by him at all in the third.
no my error in the third post but if I dug a bit further it wouldn't be too difficult to find another similar post I'm sure.

I have him on my ignore list now but when someone continually makes a point of deliberately antagonising and upsetting other members by posting carefully calculated insensitive and inflamatory comments I ask myself why that person should retain the opportunity to continue to do so and why anyone in their right mind would want to support such behaviour.

I will lend you Ellie FOC. Since she made herself at home, the cats and their shites are very few and far between.

I'm not a cat fan at all but I wouldn't fancy the outcome should the dog actually be quick enough to catch one. It's someone's pet, at the end of the day.

Oh and I can't see anything untoward in PaulB's cherry-picked posts.

Having cats and hens... in any scrap it's the cat that'll come off worst and very quickly learn not to chase hens, as my Marble found out. He did insist on sticking his nose up a hen's ar$3, so said hen immediately became Ninja hen by leaping into the air, twirling about and landing a well-aimed beak on the end of the feline nose. My free-roaming hens & family felines ignore each other.

Sounds like I need harder hens - my just squark and run away.

I keep trying to persuade Mrs R to get a border terrier, but she remains unconvinced. Admittedly, I'm not the best at getting out of bed in the mornings, not really compatible with taking the dog for a walk!

I have ex-batts. They are very tough cookies.

My two are getting old now and aren't laying many eggs. We'd thought about getting an ex-batt - sounds like something you'd recommend?

Oh yes. I have four now. Originally got two last Spring, and added a further two this summer. Thing is, if you get an ex-batt or several from a rescue organisation, you are agreeing to take them on as *pets* to give them a home for the rest of their natural born and NOT to view them as egg-laying machines that as soon as they stop laying, you cull them. I'm happy with that. I'm getting two-three eggs per day, most days from my four hens. I'm keeping me & immediate neighbours in eggs. But the eggs are an 'added bonus' if you see what I mean.

Never had a cat, so no idea what they are like... but you got to admire the agility they show... and some of them are brave like fookers for their size. There is stray tom around here that fears no dog (apart from my Greyhound for some reason)... I bet he has a great life, he wonders about getting all the pussy (ahem) he want's, all the shop owners feed him and he picks fights with all the big dogs and doesn't back down... as blaze would say "He a playa"

My cat's offended by all this talk! He's just come in, is sitting on my knee looking at the screen & yowling!

He's gorgeous, affectionate, bad tempered, neurotic, dislikes other cats - but we love him!

We think of our hens as "productive pets". Except they're not that productive anymore! Thanks for the link.
