I've just signed up for the Hellfire Corner 400 in the north of Scotland this weekend. Given good weather - and the forecast is excellent at the moment - I reckon this should be a stunning ride, even if rather climby. And I've persuaded Mrs Rob that we need another motorhome holiday in Scotland, so that's my transport issues sorted out too 👍

That was a great decision. I did the ride yesterday and it was a spectacular day with clear skies night and day, and stunning scenery. Mind you, clear skies crossing the moors at 3am meant fog and temperatures around zero (some riders claimed their Garmins were showing -4), and then up to 27 or so in the afternoon, so it required a lot of gear to be variously worn or carried.
I didn't stop to sleep, so was fighting drowsiness (and the hills) on the final stretch, as well as heartburn, but finished in a, for me, respectable 23 hours, on 411km and around 4800m of climbing.
Wonder if I made the longest journey at 500 miles to get there? But in this weather it was worth every one of them.

I am heading over to Ireland for the Celtic Knot 1000 next weekend. Not expecting blue skies, anything other than a heatwave is generally okay with me. Actual event is just over 3 days, but I’m going to take a week including travel. Makes for a more relaxed trip.

Signed up for the Summertime Blues 400k on 21st June, starting in York and going over the Pennines. Did it last year and had a fantastic time, so am hoping for more of the same - and without any snapped cables this time too.

Richmond control have had a couple of Zoom calls. Just over 3 weeks to go. Shaping up to be another heatwave edition. Looking forward to welcoming riders.

Yes, I fervently hope that the temperatures will calm down. Otherwise I need to revise up my power strategy in anticipation of far more time cycling between 7pm and 11am (and 'sleeping' in expect warm gyms during daylight). Also water strategy as yesterday I emptied half a litre of water over me half way up the Tumble (30+ minute climb, 395m) when HR rose (without extra effort) to above 160. In these circumstances cooling is more important than hydration.

Doing the 'Wander Wye' 600k next weekend from Raynes Park (SW London) heading out to Brecon and back. Last training before LEL - hope I complete it.

Entered Will's "Steam on!" 600, as I felt a bit bereft after the not-LEL ...
... fair to say I somewhat misjudged this. Hey, I've done loads of 600s - and they 're usually much earlier in the year. This one has the same climbing figure as the BCM - which is within my abilities, if I turn up fit and healthy ...
I'd somehow neglected that Devon/Cornwall "metres" of climbing count double. First 70k passed smoothly [from Brizzle into Somerset], but after that I was bouncing off the time limits all the way to the 350k sleep-stop. Not a recipe for success!
This is the sort of thing that did for me (in the dark, of course):
Looking back, that was probably the final straw. It was followed by a Plymouth 24hMcDs stop, and then the dreaded Dartmoor crossing (which whilst painfully slow, was at least very atmospheric, with occasional clear starry skies - niiiice!)
Ah well. Another "pointless" weekend, but some good memories ...
