I see a couple of Brompton riders every day...the look very serious...the both of them...more serious than any other cyclist I see...I don't know why this is...their concentration skills are impeccable...perhaps they're just trying hard not to laugh at me...who knows...
Aren't they constantly readying themselves for it to suddenly fold in the middle?

I've never ridden a Brompton, or owned a Brooks, I figure, much like buying a Volvo, I still have some life left before I need to give up on everything :-)

I sensed the same. They must know something that we don't. Also note that they will never look at your bike or any other bike.

Expectation management innit. There's no way I'd expect most high street shops to cater to how specific I like to be. I'm happy to accept that's my problem and not theirs. If I want specialist service I'll go to a specialist shop!

Being a mechanic I always keep quiet when buying a car and see what rubbish they're trying to tell me. If the salesman has is full of it I walk away. It is my pet hate though when I buy anything that the salesman knows less than me as if I were in that job I'd want to learn as much about the product as I possibly could.

I went into currys once to buy an mp3 dock for my daughter - the salesman told me that the wharfedale brand was super high quality (it might have been good years ago) he then went on to ask me what speakers I used to which I replied Bowers & Wilkins - he pondered slightly and then said it must have been a cheap brand as he'd never heard of it. Abbey Road studios obviously dont shop at Currys and now neither do I.

They also struggle to have heard of QUAD.
And don't mention 5 pin DIN leads.

Oh woe is me, I've done the set ....
I've never owned a Brooks, but have the Volvo and the Brompton. Volvo seats are amongst the comfiest in the business, maybe that's the link with the Brooks?

I discovered the joy of Volvos early by accident and feel blessed for it.

By the same measure, I used to work for Dawsons and loved my bass guitar gear - it broke my heart we didn't stock any real high end stuff. But when I did get someone asking me a question that i was looking forward to asking they'd chew my ear off and I could never get rid of them.

Can't win.

to be fair you'd not phone up Linn to to ask about a fridge, so it's a bit optimistic to expect Curry's to know much about (proper) hi fi.
