You start the race with whatever you can carry. Two x bottles of sports drink in my case. Every 25k you can pick up more bottles of water or sports drink (or flat coke!). As much as you want. I do not want to risk the taste or strength of their drink. I could stop and use a sachet of powder to mix a new brew but that wastes time, is fiddly and often the bottles are only 75% full of water anywhere
Based on previous races I can only stomach 3 x of the sports drink - after that I want water.
Handlebars are a challenge as already got tribars and elbow pads, so no room
I am liking the stick it in the pocket option. Had not even thought of that
So pocket it is. Ideally I will freeze the bottle solid the night before so that one is at least a tiny bit fresh
