Damn that pesky Catch 22! :surrender:
My mate was frontman in a band called Catch 22, their most requested track was a cover of Karma Chameleon by Culture Club. But they changed the main lyrics to "Jamma Jamma Jamma, Jamma Comedian" to avoid paying royalties etc.

someone with racing ambitions should not get dropped on a club run, even with an 8 speed alu clunker.

our former ride leader used to lead riding an 8 speed alu/carbon rixon with every tool known to man in a bag on the rear rack…

You need a gravel bike.

Probably a bit late, but whichever one you feel like riding. I only have a Shimano Claris groupset and I can keep up with the group I normally ride with (we have upwards of 100+ people on our normal Saturday morning club run so we split off into sub-groups). Most of them are running Ultegras or 105s. Our average speed is normally between 14-15mph over a 30 mile, hilly-ish route. So not incredibly fast, but a decent pace.

I'm glad I don't have all this choice problem. Commute, solo spin, club run, all the same bike. Although I note we got no final report from the jammeister
