Your username has reminded me that Nick Drake is an underrated player, especially if you like acoustic alternative tunings.
I would go for MK over EC. But, one of the best guitarists I have seen play is Mick Abrahams, member of many bands including Blodwyn Pig.

I've met Mick Abrahams several times. He lives in Milton Keynes, and when I had a flat there he lived close by and was always happy to stop and chat. Saw him play several times in MK too. Quite poorly now, apparently. Heart problems or somesuch.
Thin Lizzy's first guitarist. He really matured as a player as the albums ticked off, and by Vagabonds of the Western World he was a master. Indeed, vagabonds is some of the finest rock guitar anywhere, including as it does the full version of The Rocker.
