Eric Cantona & various other pro footballers mainly Man Utd & don't really count as they were fleeting at matches & book signings.
Played against Lee Sharpe before he signed for Man Utd.
During the sad demise of Alex Higgins in the 90's you could often find him in clubs around Manchester, Bolton & Bury playing for a tenner a frame which latterly became for drinks (I have seen this myself, £10 frame, not for drinks).
I never played Alex myself but have a few friends who did.
It was all a little bit sad really,seeing him unravel before your eyes.
Such a wasted talent & much like George Best's career.

When i was about 10 or 12 me and the family where caravaning in Cornwall and met Peter Sayer,who played for Cardiff and Brighton.i know,i know,such a big name.I try not to talk about it but thought i would include it here.I can see all your eyes now,wide open and aghast.I `m such a lucky guy.

Lionel Blair - who was a charming man, really nice.
Mike Burrows - often as he scared the living daylights out of my horses, passing them in his various recumbents. Also he knew my Dad.

Colin Chapman - ditto in the Dad department

I think it's Harry James that played for Thunder... unless @Saluki is Harry James! I've never seen them in the same room together.

Very annoying. I delivered some printing to Avalon TV back in the 90s. Was walking through the corridor and pretty much literally bumped in Frank Skinner. My brain didn't quick twig but I knew who he was so I just thought he was a friend. I said "Hi mate", he replied, "Hi mate"...probably thinking the same thing! Wish I'd had a quick chat as I think he's brilliant.
Through work met a few famous people and once stood in a lift with Dennis Taylor and we had a 30s chat about watching him live at The Crucible - was opnly a 1/4 final game but he remembered it and was appreciated.

Mark Knopfler was very nice. I had quite a few "waits" at his place and he was very much "Tea, Coffee, Kettle, sugar, biccies. Don't eat all the bourbons"
He had lots of magazines on a shelf so I sat at his, swigging tea and reading old copies of National Geographic or something. It was a while back now, when I was still immortal and rode a motorbike for a living.Eric Clapton was nice. His son hadn't long died and I think that he'd gone to stay with Knopfler for some P&Q. I didn't badger him with questions, poor man, he seemed very pleasant though.

I met that Wolf person, from Gladiators. Had a small conversation with him as I recognised him from somewhere but not sure where. Coming from a huge extended family, I kind of assumed he was an older cousin or something. It wasn't until I saw the local news that evening that I twigged who he was. Felt a bit of an idiot. He wasn't in lycra, just in a suit.
