  • Picture Book – Mondays from 1955
  • Andy Pandy – Tuesdays from 1950
  • Flower Pot Men – Wednesdays from 1952
  • Rag, Tag and Bobtail – Thursdays from 1953
  • The Woodentops – Fridays from 1955
The original programmes had a loyal following and there was concern when it was learned that they would be replaced by new programmes, as in 1965 when it was thought that Camberwick Green would replace Andy Pandy and Flower Pot Men. Eventually the new programmes were added, including: Tales of the Riverbank, Pogles' Wood, The Herbs, Joe, the Trumptonshire trilogy, Barnaby, Mr Benn, Bagpuss, Fingerbobs, Bod and Bizzy Lizzy.

Not good enough I'm afraid!

We used to watch repeats of 'The Herbs' some time in the '90s whilst being home from School for lunch. I probably wouldn't really know of them otherwise.
It's all coming back to me
Tales of the Riverbank had a Guinea pig called GP, that's what my sister called her Guinea pig.
Barnaby sang a wee song "Barnaby the Bears my name, never call me Jack or Jane", etc. (Not a fan).
Remember the wee mice in Bagpuss "making" chocolate biscuits but they were just putting the same chocolate digestive through their machine and kidding on they made them!
Not a Fingerbobs fan but had to tolerate it waiting for HR Puff 'n Stuff to start.
Liked the herbs (except Basil).

How may remember listening with mother? The Wooden Tops, Andy Pandy and Rag Tag And Bobtail all started in the fifties. There were the Whirlybirds, Champion The Wonder Horse as well, also The Lone Ranger.

Ah tales of the riverbank. I loved that. Wasn't it the great Johnny Morris narrating?

Suprised the flower pot men were quite so early. I do remember them (just). Having seen them as an adult I have to say I think the writers must have been smoking something.

The herbs I thought awfully dull even at the time. Clangers I remember clearly and loved - and recently bought the boxed set for which I blame someone on here for putting the idea in my head. (not yet watched). Bagpuss was a lot later but even as an adult it is a joy.

Yes, I think it was Johnny Morris on Tales of the Riverbank.

The common factor linking The Clangers and Bagpuss is the wonderful Oliver Postgate.

I have his memoires. Though only half-read an interesting and clearly a lovely man, quite apart from his legacy. I suspect children and adults alike will shed a tear for the little poem at the end of bagpuss for as long as television in any form endures
