A Minging Manc...
That is an amazing story. The 'Hard as nails' comment from his daughter just sums it up really. I think we all aspire to be just a fraction of the man he clearly was, determined, brave and incredibly modest. It really makes me want to try harder.

I like the comment about him having to learn to walk again after completeing the challenge and in a small way I know what they mean. Between finishing school and starting college I had a long, hot summer of leisure when I spent 2-3 months of cycling between friends houses, to clubs and on days out.I was hardly off my bike and by the end of the summer I suddenly realised that it felt slightly unnatural to walk down the street and I kept trying to hunch forward as if I was leaning on the drops of my road bike. This lasted for a week or two.

i find it strange that guiness world records wont allow anyone (or acknowledge anyone) completing this as they deem it too dangerous! surely with the advances in bikes, nutrition etc its not unacheivable, jsut requires a massive amount of commitment!

I agree. It's as if it's such an amazing achievement they want it to stand, which I don't think Godwin himself would be in favour of. I don't see how it's any more dangerous than that guy who ran a ton of marathons in a year or something.

That's like doing 25 rides across America back to back (RAAM course is 3000miles). That's seriously hardcore, with each crossing taking 14.5 days and over 200miles per day.
