When I was a kid we used to carry rosaries in our pockets and any time we spotted the parish priest we'd dash over and ask him to re-bless them. It turned into quite a frenzy at times.

Sounds like Spike Milligan's saluting trap where a large group of soldiers would see a (usually junior) officer approaching and pass him one-by-one at short intervals. The officer would be obliged to salute each soldier individually causing severe arm ache.
