(1) I would be interested in any statistics on the relative performance of different ABS systems. Common sense says they can't all be equally good. But I'm going to hazard a guess that ABS systems are (a) all pretty close to each other and (b) all better than anyone other than a specifically trained professional driver at the top of their performance can manage.
Seriously, in what way was a ten year old Mondeo with ABS "crap"? Was there not enough pressure or travel available in the braking system even to activate the ABS? Was the ABS not working properly?
(2) Copious evidence shows that when it comes to road safety, pyschology is by far the most important factor. The moment you think "Wow, I've paid lots of money to drive a car with really good safety features", as opposed to "sh**, if anything happens I'm going to get really hurt", you are in the wrong psychological place to be driving with the greatest safety you are capable of.
1. It didn't work as well. It wasn't SBC, it didn't have ESP, I can't really be arsed to go into all the detail, I bored of this thread, as I put, better of out on the bike, do some people really prefer to troll, or argue over nothing, than to get out on their bike in this weather?
2. See above, plus, out of a youngster tailgating in a jalopy more or less likely to have a more appropriate psychology, and a middle aged driver who's aware enough of their proximity, and the relative limitatations of their vehicle, in addition to their driving attitude, so allows them to pass, which is more likely to have the right attitude?
3. I never said, and never would say, anything to indicate I would rely on safety features rather than drive sensibly. In fact, I said the opposite. I said I am aware that not everybody will be able to stop as quickly as me, so when people in an old jalopy are following too close, I'm especially keen to let them pass. Yes, it's a fact, if it had been a Lamborghini with carbon ceramic brakes behind me, I would not have had this concern.
Anyway, get a life guys, get out on your bikes, or get back to work. This is done now.
