wish you a safe ride? Whilst I appreciate the sentiment, it gets on my tits because cycling isn't particularly dangerous at all, and this only helps to perpetuate the myth that it is.

I suppose its just a pleasantry, like bon voyage, safe trip(in the car ect)

For sure you're not a hazard like myself: I gladly take all the good wishes that come my way :cycle:

I told my wife to stop saying "be careful" or something along those lines when I went for a ride. I found it really, really annoying. She now says "have fun" or something equally pleasant...it's a lot nicer.

It's just a pleasantry, I wouldn't read more into it than that. People who drive are wished safe journeys too.
I wonder if it's any significance in my using a slightly different phrase. Rather than wishing anyone a "safe ride", I say "Ride safe".

I hadn't really thought about it but it's a bit more pro-active, suggesting that we can affect the world rather than passively letting the world happen to us.

To quote my wife "I know it's not dangerous! I just don't want anything to happen to you..."

EDIT: She always says "drive careful & don't take risks" before I launch my rally car down the course... this is competitive driving :banghead:

I always get 'cycle safely' from the wife & not one to tempt fate I reply 'I'll try'. It's meant with  love  so how can I take offence?
