I told my wife to stop saying "be careful" or something along those lines when I went for a ride. I found it really, really annoying. She now says "have fun" or something equally pleasant...it's a lot nicer.

I wonder if it's any significance in my using a slightly different phrase. Rather than wishing anyone a "safe ride", I say "Ride safe".

I hadn't really thought about it but it's a bit more pro-active, suggesting that we can affect the world rather than passively letting the world happen to us.

EDIT: She always says "drive careful & don't take risks" before I launch my rally car down the course... this is competitive driving

I end practically every meeting with 'take care' its just a pleasantry what does it matter ? its better than 'shove off and you might get hurt if you are not careful'

I always get 'cycle safely' from the wife & not one to tempt fate I reply 'I'll try'. It's meant with love so how can I take offence?
